5 Tom Holland Movies You Should Watch

With the release of the movie ‘Uncharted’, an adaption of the popular game series, starring Tom Holland alongside Mark Walhberg and Antonio Banderas, we take you through five of Tom Hollands’ other performances you should know about!

British actor Tom Holland is best known for his portrayal of Spiderman/Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since his first appearance as the webhead in 2016’s Captain America Civil War. A movie that saw him align himself with his idol Iron Man against the likes of then Captain American – Steve Rodgers and the Winter Soldier – James Buchanan “Bucky” Barnes. Tom Holland has established himself as one of the biggest draws in Hollywood, having his origins in theater stage performances and musicals. Playing the role of Spiderman more times than any of his predecessors, he embarks on a new character journey as ‘Nathan Drake’.

In the Heart of the Sea

An account retold from Herman Melville’s 1851 novel ‘Moby Dick‘ and adapted from ‘In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex‘ by writer Nathaniel Philbrick. A movie remade multiple times over the years, has Tom Holland in the role of cabin boy Thomas Nickerson. ‘In the heart of the Sea‘ follows a narrative pattern that has Nickerson recount his journey to author Herman Melville about his travels, struggles, and obstacles as a young sailor while hunting for whales to gather oil at sea. Tragedy strikes after the crew are shipwrecked by a sperm whale.

This film also stars his Marvel Cinematic Universe co-star Chis Hemsworth playing ‘Owen Chase’, along with Cillian Murphy, Ben Whishaw, Brendan Gleeson, and Charlotte Riley.

The Lost City of Z

The story of British explorer Percy Fawcett, on his quest to find the lost city he called ‘Z’. Set in the 1800s, ‘The Lost City of Z‘ is a period film having Tom Holland in the supporting role of Jack Fawcett. Jack helps his father on a vigorous and adventurous journey to the Amazon rainforest in search of a mysterious city of legend. With back and forth trips and surviving attacks from the inhabitants of the amazon, family life is strained with mockery and disbelief from the public eye.

This film stars Charlie Hunnan as the central character Percy Fawcett, supported by Robert Patterson and Sienna Miller.

The Devil All The Time

The Devil All The Time‘ unveils another role that shows the versatility and depth of actor Tom Holland. Playing the character of Arvin Russel, an antihero of sorts seekings to protect his family at all costs. A story set in southern Ohio and West Virginia, stemming from the hardships of dealing with post-war trauma in which multiple generations connect via their strong religious beliefs. Their faith is continuously tested, bringing to light each character’s shortcomings and hardships while having a dishonest preacher lead their small community.

This postwar drama is set in the 1950s and 1960s. The cast includes Robert Patterson, Bill Skarsgård, Riley Keough, Jason Clarke, and Sebastian Stan. The movie is based on a novel of the same name by American writer Donald Ray Pollock published in 2011. He also serves as the narrator in the movie.

Directed by the well-known duo Anthony and Joe Russo of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ‘Cherry‘ is based on Nicholas Walker’s semi-autobiographical novel of the same name, which documents many of his life’s successes and hardships.

Tom Holland conveys his acting skills in three different stages of his character Cherry’s life. A young college student falling in love, enlisting and serving as a medic in the army. He eventually becomes a drug addict and bank thief, who is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after returning from the military.
The movie casts actress Ciara Bravo alongside Tom Holland in the leading roles.

Spies in Disguise

This animated movie stars Tom Holland as the voice of Walter Beckett, a tech graduate from MIT. Beckett is known for inventing nonlethal gadgets while working for the superspy Lance Sterling. They operate at a secret agency known as H.T.U.V. (Honor, Trust, Unity, and Valor). All chaos breaks out when Lance is accidentally turned into a pigeon after one of these inventions misfires. Finding out that this change is irreversible, they form an unlikely alliance and venture on to continue their mission as a pigeon and a budding spy.

Spies in Disguise‘ also stars the voice of Will Smith, who played a superhero in ‘Handcock‘, and Ben Mendelsohn, who also plays the Marvel Cinematic Universe Skrull character ‘Talos‘.
