‘People of the Pride’ from Coldplay’s ninth studio album has been updated with a video. Originally written in 2008 during the making of Viva la Vida, the song came into existence when the band was inspired by the Black Lives Matter and Gay Pride movements.
Chris Martin says,
” The track is about human politics. This is the politics that believes that everyone on the planet has a right to be themselves. And I think whether you’re an old soft rock superstar, or a young whippersnapper, you’re allowed to believe that”.
The band members cite influences including Muse, Depeche Mode and Rammstein for this hard rock track. It samples Sam Sparro’s 2008 single “Black and Gold” and an interlude from Beyoncé’s performance of “End of Time” at the Global Citizen Festival in 2015.
The music video, directed by Paul Dugdale, features a combination of animated footage and recorded live performance footage captured during Coldplay’s performance at the Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle back in October.

Their ninth studio album ‘Music of the Spheres’ subtitled as Vol I. From Earth with Love was released last year in October. Putting together this album was Max Martin, a producer new to the band’s discography. The album features guest appearances from Selena Gomez, We Are King, Jacob Collier and BTS, as well as return contributions from electronic producer Jon Hopkins.
A tour promoting the new sound has begun in the world. The tour will visit the America and Europe, starting in Costa Rica’s Estadio Nacional on 18 March 2022.
