Michelle Yeoh Movies to Watch Before ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’

The expansively talented Michelle Yeoh starrer ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ releases on March 25. The A24 film was directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, collectively known as Daniels.

‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ is a hilarious sci-fi action-adventure film, which, apart from Yeoh as the lead, also features Ke Huy Quan (‘Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom’), Stephanie Hsu (‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’), Jamie Lee Curtis (‘Halloween’), Jenny Slate (‘Gifted’‘Big Mouth’), Harry Shum Jr. (‘Shadowhunters’‘Crazy Rich Asians’), among others. It is a multiverse movie about an exhausted Chinese American woman (Michelle Yeoh) who can’t seem to finish her taxes.

Yeoh rose to fame in the 1990s. She has starred in some of the most iconic films, including James Bond, martial arts, and action movies! We take a look at some epic roles Michelle Yeoh has portrayed in her career and those that you should check out before or after watching her latest film ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000)

This 2000 film is set in 19th century Qing Dynasty China. A warrior (Chow Yun-Fat, ‘A Better Tomorrow’) gives his sword, Green Destiny, to his lover, Yu Shu Lien, portrayed by Michelle Yeoh. He does this so that it is delivered to safekeeping. However, it was stolen.

The chase is then on to find it, which leads to the House of Yu. This is where the story takes on a whole different level. Directed by Ang Lee (‘Life of Pi’‘Brokeback Mountain’), the cast of the film includes Zhang Ziyi (‘The Rebel Princess’), Chang Chen (’Love and Destiny’), Cheng Pei-pei (‘Come Drink with Me’), Cheng Pei-pei (‘The Legend’), and Fazeng Li.

Crazy Rich Asians (2018)

This film won the Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Best Comedy. ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ sees Rachel Chu (Constance Wu, ‘Hustlers’) happy to accompany her longtime boyfriend, Nick (Henry Golding, ‘Last Christmas’‘A Simple Favor’), to his best friend’s wedding in Singapore. She’s also surprised to learn that Nick’s family is extremely wealthy.

Her boyfriend is considered one of the country’s most eligible bachelors and being thrust into the spotlight, Rachel must now contend with jealous socialites. This includes quirky relatives and something far, far worse – Nick’s disapproving mother portrayed by Michelle Yeoh. The film’s cast also features Awkwafina (‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings’‘The Farewell’), Gemma Chan (‘Eternals’), Ken Jeong (‘The Masked Singer’‘The Hangover’), Sonoya Mizuno (‘Ex Machina’) and Harry Shum Jr. (‘Shadowhunters’), among others.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings (2021)

Marvel Studios’ ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ saw Michelle Yeoh in the role of Shang-Chi’s aunt. The film stars Simu Liu (‘Kim’s Convenience’) as Shang-Chi. He is the master of unarmed weapons-based Kung Fu, who believes he has left his past behind. This is until he is forced to confront it when he is drawn into a web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization.

The film also features Tony Leung Chiu-wai (‘Se jie’), Meng’er Zhang, Ben Kingsley (‘Gandhi’‘Iron Man 3’), Fala Chen (‘Triumph in the Skies II’), Awkwafina (‘Crazy Rich Asians’‘The Farewell’) as Shang-Chi’s friend Katy and more! Yeoh also made an appearance in the film ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ as Aleta Ogord.

Tomorrow Never Dies (1997)

Michelle Yeoh has even starred in a James Bond film! In the 1997 ‘James Bond’ film ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’, media mogul Elliot Carver (Jonathan Pryce, ‘The Two Popes’‘The Crown’) wants his news empire to reach every country on the globe. However, the Chinese government will not allow him to broadcast there and Carver doesn’t take no for an answer. He plans to use his media empire to fuel flames of war between the Western world and China but, thankfully, James Bond (Pierce Brosnan, ‘Die Another Day’‘Mamma Mia!’) is on to the insane news tycoon.

He travels to China to stop him with the help of Chinese secret agent Wai Lin portrayed by Michelle Yeoh. Yeoh starred in the film alongside Judi Dench (‘Belfast’‘Skyfall’), Teri Hatcher (‘Desperate Housewives’), Samantha Bond (‘Die Another Day’), Desmond Llewelyn (‘The World Is Not Enough’), Götz Otto, Gerard Butler (‘Geostorm’‘P.S. I Love You’, ‘How to Train Your Dragon’), among others.

Police Story 3: Supercop (1992)

Michelle Yeoh takes on the role of an undercover agent in the 1992 film ‘Police Story 3: Supercop’. This film follows the police Inspector Chan Ka Kui (Jackie Chan, ‘Rush Hour’‘The Karate Kid’) who goes undercover in a Chinese prison. He does this to infiltrate a drug cartel. There, he earns the trust of Panther (Yuen Wah, ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings’), a cartel member. He does this by breaking Panther out of prison and with the help of another undercover agent (Michelle Yeoh), they travel to Hong Kong.

They join up with Panther’s gang where Ka Kui is accepted by the gang’s leader (Kenneth Tsang, ‘Overhead 2’). However, his operation is jeopardized when Ka Kui’s girlfriend (Maggie Cheung, (‘In the Mood for Love’‘Days of Being Wild’) accidentally reveals his true identity. The film’s cast also includes Bill Tung (‘It’s A Mad, Mad World’‘Police Story 2’), Lo Lieh (‘King Boxer’), Ken Lo (‘Drunken Master II’), Wai Shum (‘Long Arm of the Law’), and Josephine Koo (‘Homecoming’‘Shanghai Story’).

Kung Fu Panda 2 (2011)

Yeoh has also done voice acting and has featured alongside Jackie Chan, Seth Rogen, Angelina Jolie in the film ‘Kung Fu Panda 2’. In this sequel to the ‘Kung Fu Panda’ Po (voiced by Jack Black, ‘School of Rock’‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’) is known as the Dragon Warrior who protects the Valley of Peace. He does this alongside his friends and fellow kung fu masters, the Furious Five. But a dangerous villain threatens Po’s awesome new life. The villain’s plan is to use a secret weapon to wipe out martial art and conquer China.

To defeat this new enemy, Po finds he must recall his past. He must unlock secrets of his mysterious origins; only then will he find the strength to vanquish his foe in this film starring Jackie Chan (‘Rush Hour’‘The Karate Kid’), Seth Rogen (‘Freaks and Geeks’‘This is the End’), Gary Oldman (‘Darkest Hour’), James Hong (‘Mulan’), Angelina Jolie and Michelle Yeoh as Soothsayer.

Sunshine (2007)

Directed by Danny Boyle, the 2007 film ‘Sunshine’ is set in the not-too-distant future. Earth’s dying sun spells the end for humanity. In a last-ditch effort to save the planet, a crew of eight men and women venture into space.

They have a device with them that could revive the star but an accident, a grave mistake and a distress beacon from a long-lost spaceship throw the crew and its desperate mission into a tailspin. Wing Chun (1994)

This 1994 film sees Michelle Yeoh in the role of Wing Chun, whose village is yet again being plundered by bandits. However, Wing Chun uses kung fu to defeat them and the fighting doesn’t end here. This film’s cast includes Donnie Yen (‘Ip Man’), Waise Lee, Xiangdong Xu (‘The Tai Chi Master’), Cheng Pei-pei (‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’), and Norman Chui (‘Reincarnated’).
