TV Shows and Movies Coming to Netflix This Week (April 12 – 16)

The series finale of a show set in a world dominated by vampires, a new series documenting life behind bars whilst rehearsals of a musical take place, a former president narrates a documentary series about the world’s most breathtaking national parks and the wildlife that live there, and a mother-in-law meddles and disrupts the life of her son and his wife.

Hard Cell (Season 1) – April 12

Events planner-turned-women’s prison governor Laura Willis documents life behind bars as an ex-EastEnders star Cheryl Fergison directs a musical. The series is set over a 6 week period during which the inmates rehearse this musical. ‘Hard Cell’ stars Catherine Tate (‘The Office’), Niky Wardley (‘The Catherine Tate Show’), Lorna Brown, Cheryl Fergison, and Christian Brassington, among others.

Almost Happy (Season 2) – April 13

Almost Happy’ follows Sebastián, a radio show host of modest fame. He tries to find a way in the world as he deals with his ex-wife, whom he still loves, and two kids in this series which offered its latest installment on April 13.

Narrated by former President Barack Obama, ‘Our Great National Parks’ is a five-part documentary series about the world’s most breathtaking national parks and the wildlife that live there. Choose or Die – April 15

‘Choose or Die’ is a Netflix film that sees two friends reboot a mysterious 1980s video game and step into a surreal world of next-level terror. Heirs to the Land – (Season 1) – April 15

Netflix’s description of ‘Heirs to the Land’ reads: “Resourceful young Hugo Llor works to make a name for himself in 14th-century Barcelona while keeping a vow he made to the Estanyol family.” The first season of the show arrives on Netflix on April 15.

Van Helsing (Season 5) – April 16

‘Van Helsing’ is a reimagining of the classic Dracula story. In the show, the world is dominated by vampires. It requires humans to work together to survive and the series centers on Vanessa Helsing. She is the daughter of famed vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing. Vanessa wakes up after a five-year coma to discover a vampire-controlled world and soon learns that she possesses a unique blood composition. It makes her immune to vampires with an ability to turn the creatures into humans.

That power puts humanity’s last hope to return the world to how it once was before the vampires took over in Vanessa’s hands. The series stars Kelly Overton (‘True Blood’), Jonathan Scarfe (‘Detective McLean’), Christopher Heyerdahl (‘Hell on Wheels’‘Sanctuary’), Tricia Helfer (‘Battlestar Galactica’‘Lucifer’), Missy Peregrym (‘Rookie Blue’‘FBI’), and Rukiya Bernard (‘Yellowjackets’), among others. The fifth and final season of the show comes to Netflix on April 16.
