Swedish House Mafia and IKEA Reveal a Line of Products

Electronic dance music trio Swedish House Mafia and retail furniture brand IKEA have collaborated on a line of products. IKEA revealed these products at the IKEA Festival during the 2022 Milan Design Week. Included in this collection are a music production desk, an armchair, a record player, and many more items.

Swedish House Mafia and Ikea’s partnership was first announced in September 2021, with the collection set to debut in September 2022. Its name OBEGRÄNSAD was revealed at this IKEA Festival in Milan. Carmen Stoicescu, Product Design Engineer at Ikea, and designer Friso Wiersma teamed up on Swedish House Mafia’s OBEGRÄNSAD collection.

The music production desk is a solution for aspiring music creators. It is positioned to be the answer to the trend of producing professional-quality music at home.

OBEGRÄNSAD is Swedish for ‘unlimited’ and the name alludes to the collection’s intended audience; those with a limited budget but boundless creativity.

Swedish House Mafia, comprised of Grammy Award nominees Axwell, Steve Angello, and Sebastian Ingrosso, also shared via Instagram that the collection will include over twenty furniture pieces, interior solutions, and accessories for music producers and DJs.

As expressed by Swedish House Mafia “The design supports creating, playing, enjoying and even just setting the mood.”

IKEA and Swedish House Mafia had also recently revealed their FRAKTA bag collection. This collection is a new take on Ikea’s Frakta bag. It includes three variations ranging from a bag for cables and cords, a laptop bag, and a bag designed to hold vinyl records and other accessories. As mentioned by Ikea on their Instagram, this is “a collection inspired by the needs of music creators and those who value music experiences at home.”

Ikea’s product line with music and music-related storage solutions can be traced back to around 1952. The pages of the 1973 IKEA catalog contained a piano, a stereo system, amplifiers, and a record player.
