After multiple documentaries, a biopic on Amy Winehouse is finally under works. Young Money (Drake, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne) reunites for Drake’s new concert series. Spotify acquires Heardle amongst its other new features, among other significant happenings this week.

Drake Announces October World Weekend With Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, and More

As Drake’s most recent album continues to dominate the charts, the Canadian rapper has announced a new three-day festival called October World Weekend. This special concert series will take place on July 28-29 and August 1 at multiple venues across Toronto. Titled “All Canadian North Stars”, Drake will be joined by the likes of Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, Lil Baby, and more. 

Drake took to Instagram to publicize the event. He wrote, “OCTOBER WORLD WEEKEND 🌏 I am currently working on bringing OVO FEST around the world in 2023 for the 10th Anniversary but of course we wanted to turn the city up for the summer!!! More event announcements to come.”

Lizzo Receives Her First Emmy Nomination, Announces ‘Lizzoverse’ to Celebrate New Album

2022 has been a transcending ride for Lizzo so far! The ‘Truth Hurts’ singer released her fourth studio album titled ‘Special’ on July 15, which features the viral track ‘About Damn Time’. In celebration of its release, Lizzo announced ‘Lizzoverse’ – an “immersive lightshow and pop-up experience.” The hour-long show, in collaboration with American Express, will be held at Cipriani 25 Broadway in New York on July 16 and 17, 2022. It’ll include “intergalactic imagery, photo ops, and exclusive merch,” according to the official statement.

To top it all, Lizzo’s Amazon Prime reality show ‘Watch Out for the Big Grrrls,’ received six Emmy Nominations. The singer expressed her excitement and gratitude on an Instagram live following the announcement. “I am so excited to share with you guys that Watch Out For The Big Grrrls is Emmy-nominated! And not just one nomination, bitch – six nominations! Emmys!” she said

“But I wanted to say that when we made this show, we were not thinking about nominations, accolades [or]awards,” she added while also thanking the cast. “They were very brave and very honest. And they deserve all the love today.”

Amy Winehouse to Get a Biopic

A new Amy Winehouse will soon be in the works under European production studio StudioCanal. Expected to the titled ‘Back To Black‘, the movie has been in a wrap since 2018. The much-awaited biopic will be helmed by ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ and ‘Nowhere Boy‘ director, Sam Taylor-Johnson. Amy Winehouse Estate, including her father Mitchell Winehouse, is in complete support of the film, reports Variety.

Back To Black‘ will chronicle the short, successful, and everlasting legacy of the Grammy award-winning singer. Amy passed away at the age of 27 in 2011 due to alcohol poisoning, after a long struggle with drugs and alcohol. The ‘Rehab’ singer has had documentaries based on her life, including the 2015’s Oscar-winning documentary ‘Amy’.

Eminem Announces New Greatest Hits Compilation ‘Curtain Call 2’

Rapper Eminem is set to release his second greatest hits compilation album ‘Curtain Call 2’ on August 5, 2022. The collection will include all of Eminem’s releases since 2009’s album ‘Relapse’. His latest track ‘The King and I’ with CeeLo Green from the movie “Elvis“, “From the D 2 the LBC” – the second lead single of the compilation featuring Snoop Dogg, are all part of ‘Curtain Call 2’. 

As per the press release, ‘Curtain Call 2’ is described as “a hits collection comprised of the inimitable Detroit MC’s creative output since the 2005 release of ‘Curtain Call: The Hits.’” In anticipation of the release, the iconic rapper unveiled the album art, which raised mixed feelings from the fans.

Spotify Acquires Music Trivia Game Heardle

After implementing the new Karaoke and Supergrouper feature, Spotify has now acquired Heardle into its streaming platform. Inspired by the viral guessing game Wordle, Heardle is a similar music guessing game wherein players try to figure out the song based on its opening melodies. 

“For existing Heardle players, the look and feel of the game will stay the same, and it’ll remain free to play for everyone. And effective today, players can listen to the full song on Spotify at the end of the game,” stated a press release from Spotify.

Selena Gomez Creates History Upon Receiving Her First Emmy Nomination

Selena Gomez’s ‘Only Murders In The Building’ got 17 nods at this years Emmy nominations. The ‘Lose You to Love Me’ singer got herself nominated for as an executive procedure. This marks Selena as the only third Latinx woman to get nominated in the producing categories for outstanding comedy in the 74-year Emmy history.

The hit series bagged multiple nominations across the categories, including lead actor in a comedy for co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short. However, Gomez, despite being the lead character in the series, failed to acquire one for herself. ‘Only Murders In The Building’ released season two earlier this month and has been renewed for another season.
