Selena Quintanilla Estate Unveils Posthumous Album Release Date
Legendary singer Selena Quintanilla, who was among the best-selling artists of the 1990s, was one of the most celebrated Mexican-American icons of the time. She was shot and killed on March 31, 1995, when she was 23 years old. It has been over 27 years since she passed away, and the Quintanilla family and Warner Music Latina will be releasing a new album from the Grammy-winning singer.
The estate has revealed a remixed regional version of ‘Como Te Quiero Yo A Ti’. It is the first single from Selena’s forthcoming 13-track album. Selena’s posthumous album is titled ‘Moonchild Mixes’. It will release on August 26. This isn’t the first time this song has been re-released. This is the third version of ‘Como Te Quiero Yo A Ti’.
Originally recorded in 1987, the single was written by Ricky Vela. Vela was an original member of Selena y Los Dinos. ‘Como Te Quiero Yo A Ti’ is produced by Selena’s brother, A.B. Quintanilla, who told ABC News that he cleaned Selena’s vocals and “put them on timing. And then we also pitched her vocal down just a hair to make her sound a little bit more mature.”
Most of the album’s songs were recorded when Selena was merely a teenager between 13 and 16 years old, as per the family. A.B. says “he digitally altered the music to portray the vocals and overall sound as accurately as possible.” The new album will include 10 songs that haven’t been heard before. Three songs are new variations of previously released tracks.
“It truly feels like she went into the studio again and recorded it,” Selena’s sister, Suzette Quintanilla, said in the ABC News interview. “It’s pretty incredible.”
