Lizzo Wins Emmy, FLETCHER Releases Debut Album, and More

From Demi Lovato talking about her plans to stop touring to Doja Cat teasing her forthcoming album, here’s last week in pop music.

Lizzo Wins An Emmy

Lizzo is now an Emmy-winning artist as she took home the Emmy for Outstanding Competition Program for her Amazon Prime Video series, ‘Watch Out for the Big Grrrls’. In an emotional acceptance speech, the star said: “When I was a little girl, all I wanted to see was me in the media, someone fat like me, Black like me, beautiful like me.” “If I could go back and tell little Lizzo something, I’d be like, ‘You’re gonna see that person, but, bitch, it’s gonna have to be you!'”

“One year ago, these women were filming this television show that would change their lives forever,” she spoke of her cast. “They are Emmy Award-winning superstars who are going on a world tour.” “Make some noise for my Big Grrrls. I love you guys so much,” she concluded. Lizzo is also a three-time Grammy winner for Best Pop Solo Performance for ‘Truth Hurts’, Best Traditional R&B Performance for ‘Jerome’, and Best Urban Contemporary Album for ‘Cuz I Love You (Deluxe)’. She is halfway towards achieving the EGOT status.

“This is for the big grrrls who now live in a world with a little more representation. Where they are treated with respect,” Lizzo, the stage name of Melissa Viviane Jefferson, wrote in a post shared on Instagram “To not be the punchline of a tiredass fat joke. To be loved. To be talented. To be great. We do this because representation changes the culture & can change lives.”

FLETCHER Releases Debut Album ‘Girl Of My Dreams’

FLETCHER has finally released her debut album ‘Girl Of My Dreams’. The ‘Bitter’ singer dropped the first single ‘Her Body Is Bible’ in June before releasing ‘Becky’s So Hot’ in the following month. The opening track on the album, ‘Sting’, came earlier this month, followed by ‘Better Version’, which was released last week.

Announcing the album with its cover art in June, Cari Elise Fletcher, whose stage name is FLETCHER, said: “cannot believe i am writing this but MY FIRST EVER DEBUT ALBUM is going to be yours. i have been waiting my whole entire life for this moment.” “it is the culmination of every experience and lover and moment in between. i have never been so proud, excited and ready for something to be out in the world.”

The singer’s Girl Of My Dreams North American Tour begins next month on October 11 in Florida and ends with a show in Los Angeles on November 17.

FLO Announce New Single

British girl group FLO has announced a new single titled ‘Not My Job’ out on September 21. The group, which consists of Jorja Douglas, Stella Quaresma, and Renée Downer rose to fame with their debut single ‘Cardboard Box’ with the help of social media. The song has now garnered over 8 million streams on Spotify. Since then, FLO dropped a five-track EP titled “The Lead’ in July.

Doja Cat Reveals Next Album is Inspired by ‘90s German Rave Culture

In a new interview with CR Fashion Book, Doja Cat shared: “We just have so many ideas and making those ideas consistent is the challenge right now.” She couldn’t reveal much about her ‘Planet Her’ follow-up album but said, “I’m very into this ’90s German rave kind of vibe right now and it’s really fun.”

“I know that’s kind of the trend at the moment but I loved that stuff as a kid and now that I can express it (obviously, I couldn’t buzz my head and wear a furry bra and have a belly button piercing back then), I’m sort of embracing that,” the ‘Woman’ hitmaker explained. “That’s kind of a hint to the album. Rave culture, not house.”

Doja Cat bagged Grammy nominations for ‘Need To Know’ (Best Melodic Rap Performance), ‘Planet Her (Deluxe)’ (Best Pop Vocal Album and Album Of The Year), and ‘Kiss Me More’ (Song Of The Year and Record Of The Year). She took home the award for ‘Kiss Me More’ for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance this year. The album spawned hits like ‘Need to Know’, ‘Woman’, ‘You Right’, and ‘Kiss Me More’. Her latest release ‘Vegas’ came in May this year for the soundtrack of the 2022 film ‘ELVIS’.
