5 Iconic Horror Games You Should Play in 2022

For this week, we have compiled a list of the scariest video games you can find in 2022. From well-known titles such as Resident Evil to smaller, indie horror games, all supremely unique in playability and plot.

Although you may enter games knowing what awaits you, the moment you realize you are the one being hunted, chills run down your spine as a 10-foot tall shadow drags you to a corner. The games listed below may be frightening, but they are also extremely entertaining and exciting, all meant to keep you on your toes.

Developed by a British indie game studio, Kinetic Games, Phasmophobia is an investigative horror game in which four friends are tasked with finding and exorcising the entity residing in the building. You will have a journal that describes many of the entities’ behaviors; like those of demons, spirits, wraiths and many more. Using the tools available in the truck, locate and complete the objective.

Phasmophobia has been available through early access since September 2020 with regular updates. The game is expected to fully release by the end of 2022 or early 2023, but it could also be delayed depending on additional features and how the game will process through early access.

Developed by Kojima Production, P.T. is a psychological horror game that was co-written and co-directed by Oscar winner for Best Director, Guillermo del Toro. Although the game is a PS4 exclusive, and isn’t selling anymore copies, it’s worth mentioning. The game is a prequel to the well-known horror video game series Silent Hill.

P.T. was praised for its good directing, visuals, compelling storylines, and the supernatural entities that were the main attraction. If you still have a PS4 laying around in your attic and are one of the lucky few to have purchased the game, get it started already and try P.T.

Alien: Isolation

Alien: Isolation is not for the lighthearted; there are several gory scenes, jump scares that’ll leave your heart pounding, along with scores of violence. Tagged as a survival horror game, Alien: Isolation was developed by Creative Assembly and published by Sega on October 7, 2014. The game is based on the Alien film series, which includes seven films that expand the storyline with the game, allowing players to experience the thrill in first-person.

The game is highly regarded as one of the best horror survival games, with critics appreciating its futuristic designs, smart AI, and great audio effects. The game is available on Windows, Xbox consoles, PlayStation consoles, as well as Mac OS.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Resident Evil 7 is our final pick for this horror games list. On January 23, 2017, Capcom released the game for the PlayStation 4 and 5, Microsoft Windows, Xbox consoles, Google Stadia, Amazon’s Luna, and Nintendo Switch. The game is also enjoyable when played with the PlayStation VR headset.

Players take on the role of Ethan Winter, a man searching for his missing wife. Following leads, Ethan arrives at a run-down farmhouse, where he meets an infected family known as the Bakers, who guard many sinister secrets. You’ll encounter far too many jump scares, infected creatures, and hordes of frightening NPCs. Players can use shotguns, handguns, molotov cocktails, flamethrowers, and chainsaws to attack, but if they want to be stealthy, they can simply run by them or sneak around unnoticed.
