Onyx Recordings Presents Disrupta, Amplify, T95, and More, in Auckland

Onyx Recordings has just launched its first international tour in collaboration with Aotearoa’s Sub180. The tour of New Zealand spans the cities of Wellington, Dunedin, Christchurch, and Auckland and will be headlined by UK drum and bass titans Disrupta, Amplify, and T95. On October 8, 2022, Auckland’s Sweat Shop Brew Kitchen will host the last stop on the tour, with local acts Hazey, Brigsy, Sammy W, Codem, and Stonez all set to perform. Tickets for the event are powered by Ticket Fairy.

Based in Brighton, England, Onyx Recordings launched operations in 2017 and has since established itself as a mainstay in the UK’s drum and bass scene. In 2021, they earned the Drum & Bass Arena award for Best Newcomer Label. Sub180, on the other hand, is a New Zealand-based and owned events company that promotes homegrown talent on the biggest stages and festivals, including the upcoming Mayhem Open Air Festival and Rolling Meadows 2022.

After powering Monroe’s drum and bass day party in May 2021, the Ticket Fairy will return to ticketing at Auckland’s Sweat Shop Brew Kitchen for this event. Sweat Shop Brew Kitchen, located at 7 Sale Street, Freemans Bay, is a food and beverage outlet, event space, and home to one of Auckland’s largest outdoor decks, serving its own locally brewed craft beer. It hosts live music every first Thursday of the month, every Friday and Saturday, offers curated brewery experience packages, hosts Drag Queen Bingo night, and more!

UK drum and bass music producers Kieran Leach, better known as DISRUPTA, Nury Blackburn aka Amplify, and T95 will headline the tour in New Zealand, which will fan out in Australia too. This is DISRUPTA’s first tour down under, about which he said on Instagram, “I’m going down under 🇦🇺🇳🇿 gassed to announce my debut Australia / New Zealand tour. 8 cities, 3 weeks – see you soon.”

Also on tour is the now twenty-five-year-old deck magician, Amplify. Talking about his introduction to drum and bass music, Amplify shared with UKF, “Honestly, I never used to like it. I used to like grime and more mainstream stuff. Then, I turned 18, started going out, and wanted to start going to places that were open a bit later. The Attic in Torquay used to shut at 4 am, so I went with my mates and the first time I went Serum and Voltage were playing. I proper enjoyed it, kept on going to raves, and eventually got myself a controller. It’s all been a bit mad from there.”

Off the back of his latest work, ‘Emotions’, T95 shared, “NZ & AUS TOUR NEXT MONTH 🤯 The amount of love I’ve received from the other side of the world has been crazy and I’m so gassed to announce ill be flying out next month 🇳🇿🇦🇺. Please keep an eye on my socials for ticket links and more info about the tour… SO MUCH MUSIC TO SHOW YOU ALL 🙏❤️”. ‘Love’ in the post is a nod to the fact that T95’s streaming numbers in New Zealand are the highest outside of the UK.

Supporting acts for the October 8 show are stacked with local talent. Charlie Spicer aka HAZEY, Brigsy, Codem, Sammy W, and Hannah Evans under the alias Stonez are among the New Zealand-based artists on the lineup. HAZEY also dropped his debut release‘Run’ on September 30, 2022. Be sure to look for it during his set!

We reached out to one of the artists for the evening, drum and bass DJ and producer Brigsy, for a comment on the upcoming gig. He shared with us, “It’s such a privilege to have the Onyx recordings crew over. They’ve been killing it in the worldwide drum & bass scene as of late. We just know they’ll bring a masterclass of drum and bass DJ’ing and selections to Sweat Shop.”

Auckland-based drum and bass artist Sammy W, who is performing a B2B set with Codem, also weighed in on the event as well. He said, “I am super excited to be back at Sweat Shop with the Sub180 crew! Going B2B with Cody will be heaps of fun as we have similar styles of mixing and music. Plus, getting to watch Disrupta, Amplify & T95 play will be a dream!”
