Taylor Swift was the biggest winner of the night, taking home the best artist, best video, best pop, and best longform video awards. Nicki Minaj, David Guetta, and SEVENTEEN scored two wins apiece. The winners in this year’s new categories were Taylor Swift and BLACKPINK for best longform and best metaverse performance, respectively.

EDM star David Guetta and Bebe Rexha opened the 2022 MTV EMAs with a performance of their latest hit ‘I’m Good (Blue)’. Guetta and Bebe have collaborated before on ‘Hey Mama’, one of their biggest hits, which came out in 2014. Their latest collaboration ‘I’m Good (Blue)’, released in August this year, has already garnered over 344 million streams on Spotify, and David Guetta and Bebe Rexha won the best collaboration award for it too. He also won the best electronic award and thanked his fans for voting for him. The nominees for the best electronic award at this year’s MTV EMAs were DJ Snake, Marshmello, Tiësto, Calvin Harris, David Guetta, and Swedish House Mafia.
Muse Dedicate Their Best Rock Win to Ukraine
English rock band Muse won the best rock award at the 2022 MTV EMAs. The band, which was formed in 1994, beat out fellow nominees Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Liam Gallagher, The Killers, and Måneskin. While accepting the best rock award, the group dedicated their MTV EMA trophy to Ukraine. They also took the MTV EMA stage to perform ‘Will of the People’ (the title track and album opener of their 2022 record ‘Will Of The People’) minutes before they won this award.
Gorillaz Rocked the Stage With ‘Cracker Island’
Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett’s virtual band, Gorillaz, were on the bill to perform tonight. A video was projected of the band performing ‘Cracker Island’ from Tonhalle music concert hall in Düsseldorf. They went on to win ‘Best Alternative’ at this year’s MTV EMAs.
Lina Deshvar, Anfisa Yakovina, and Anna Kutova were Honored With the MTV EMA Generation Change Award
This year, the MTV EMA Generation Change Award was presented to Anfisa Yakonova, Anna Kutova, and Lina Deshvar for their work to care, help, evacuate, and provide shelter to refugees, children, women, families, and those impacted by the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. The recipients of this award were honored with the MTV EMA Generation Change Award at the red carpet show. They were selected due to a partnership with Choose Love, a non-governmental organization.

Taylor Swift is the Best Artist at the 2022 MTV EMAs
“It’s so good to be back,” the Billboard and Spotify record-breaking artist Taylor Swift began while accepting her best longform video award for ‘All Too Well: The Short Film’ starring Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brien. The singer, who directed a short film for the first time, thanked both Sink and O’Brien for being a part of the ‘All Too Well: The Short Film’. “I’m so blown away,” she says of the massive response she received on her latest release ‘Midnights’. She expressed her gratitude to the fans for their love and support in helping her do what she does.
Taylor Swift won the best artist award at the 2022 MTV EMAs. “Wow, first of all, I want to say I have so much respect and admiration for my fellow nominees”, Swift said while accepting the award. The singer was nominated for the award alongside stars Beyoncé, ROSALÍA, Nicki Minaj, Adele, and Harry Styles. She also won the best pop 2022 MTV European Music Award which she accepted backstage. “You’re the reason I’m employed,” the singer said while thanking her fans. Being a pop artist comes with “wearing sequins and learning choreography,” the ‘Anti-Hero’ hitmaker stated.
Later that night Swift won the best video award. “The fans willed this to happen,” the singer said in her speech.

GAYLE performed her massive hit ‘abcdefu’ at the MTV EMAs on a bed on stage. In an all-black ensemble and with her guitar in her hands, GAYLE got everyone singing the song at the top of their lungs. Canadian singer-songwriter Tate McRae took the MTV EMAs stage to perform ‘She’s All I Wanna Be’ while her backup dancers performed in large transparent boxes on stage. The nineteen-year-old then performed her 2022 single ‘uh oh’.
Kalush Orchestra Perform at the MTV EMAs for the First Time
Kalush Orchestra, winners of the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest, performed their winning track ‘Stefania’ at this year’s MTV EMAs. They gave a stellar performance of their winning song amidst the colors of the Ukrainian flag displayed across the stage.
The Ukrainian folk/hip-hop band said they will be cultural “soldiers” for Ukraine prior to their set at the ceremony. “We feel a bit of pressure because it is so huge. We feel pressure to perform for Ukraine and today we would like everybody to show that the culture of Ukraine is so unique,” said lead singer Oleh Psiuk.
Spinall, Nasty C, and Äyanna Close the Night
The closing performance at the 2022 MTV EMAs came from Spinall, Nasty C, and Äyanna. The first-time MTV EMA performers delivered an energetic performance of ‘POWER’.
