This review is for the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II single-player campaign mode, which released on October 28, 2022. If you want to know more about this brand new first-person shooter, read on!
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is the nineteenth installment in the Call of Duty series, and a follow-up to the reboot released in 2019, which was developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision.
Although Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (2022) has mixed reviews, it still begs for at least a single playthrough. Being highly criticized for its underwhelming story and numerous bugs and glitches, the campaign has reportedly not been able to live up to its 2019 prequel, with many calling it a step-down.
Some games, including Cyberpunk 2077, Battlefield 4, and many more, required additional time to fix bugs and glitches through patch notes after their initial release. However, if you are to consider the significant upgrades in visuals, gun control, and audio that other games have yet to achieve, Modern Warfare has indeed surpassed all first-person shooters.
Modern Warfare II Campaign Breakdown
If you’re planning on completing the campaign in one sitting, go for it! Campaign mode only takes six hours to complete, and developers Infinity Ward have made stealth a very important aspect of Modern Warfare II. It is also worth noting that each weapon has its own recoil, so it may take a few minutes to get used to a gun (we recommend the M4).
The majority of the missions take place in Mexico, where the multi-national special forces unit, Task Force 141, along with the Mexican Special Forces unit Los Vaqueros, attempt to track down Iranian Quds Force Major and terrorist Hassan Zyani. Unlike the previous Call of Duty games, you’re not thrown into a battlefield and meant to shoot anything you see moving, but rather, a much more tactical approach is required where players clear rooms and areas.
During the campaign, there are brief instances where players are transported to Amsterdam for a recon mission. In these parts you see Modern Warfare II’s graphics in action, showcasing beautiful color contrasts, reflections of windows and rivers, and NPCs that quite honestly look like creations out of Pixar’s studios.
You’re going to find yourself fighting on the field, stealing your enemies’ vehicles, and even supporting Task Force 141 through aerial combat. Modern Warfare II might have a few glitches, but its impressive graphics have definitely blown some minds, ours included.
