Although The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been around for almost a decade, it still holds the title of being one of the best open-world RPGs to date. Recently, CD Projekt Red announced the release of a remastered edition of the game for next-gen consoles, along with new side missions, collectible items, and armor, among others.
The Witcher series has been one of the most enjoyable open-world experiences of our time, with players completing the story and moving on to tinker with its thirty-six different endings, or collecting every piece of armor and every unlockable. You will always find yourself doing something different when you revisit the game.
More recently, with the arrival of Netflix’s Witcher series, there was a massive rise in popularity for the franchise, with fans of the show grabbing copies of the games for more Witcher content. Considering the franchise’s growing mass appeal, CD Projekt Red has recently announced a remake/remastered edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, with side missions taken straight out of Netflix’s The Witcher Series, including armor, special items, and a lot more.
Below you will find new content and important information about the remastered edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, set to release on December 14, 2022.
Netflix’s Witcher Content
Although the team behind Netflix’s The Witcher, played by Henry Cavill, tries to stay true to the books and games, sometimes production designs and plots differ. Side missions, adapted from the show’s success, are said to be a choice that rewards you fairly well.
Along with side missions and quests, developers are adding many designs from the show into the game. A few that are worth mentioning include:
- A new appearance for the Dandelion (The Bard/Jaskier) based on Nextflix’s The Witcher series
- Players can choose to change Nilfgaardian armor to match the series’ design
- A new armor set for Geralt based on Netflix’s The Witcher series
New Features And Improvements
The Witcher 3 remastered edition is said to have improved on many aspects of the game, adding ray-tracing, better textures, and graphics enchantments; and due to the recent improvement in gaming consoles, players can now play at 60 fps in 4K.
Players can choose to have a more cinematic experience that decreases their FPS but focuses more on their graphics with ray-tracing enabled, whereas performance mode allows players to play at 60 FPS with ray-tracing disabled. This feature is going to be available on the following consoles: PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One Series X, but not the Series S.
A few other details worth mentioning:
- More weathers: Fog, Misty
- Improved character customization
- Better landscapes (dense grass, forests)
- Improved lighting and illumination
As confirmed by CD Projekt Red via Twitter, the remastered edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be available for the PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X and S, as well as the PC, on December 14, 2022. Players that already own the game will get the update for free, whereas if you’d like to play it and don’t own a copy, you’re going to need to buy it from your respective game stores.
