The esteemed awards ceremony returns after a COVID-induced hiatus for their 2022 edition in Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater.
The Game Awards 2022, hosted by producer and creator Geoff Keighley, took to the big stage this year, live for an audience in-house and online, streaming across top platforms globally. While well-deserving titles, Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarök, each bagged four and five awards respectively, TGA also panned the spotlight on 2022’s indie releases, including Stray, which won titles of both Best Indie and Best Debut Indie.

Al Pacino Presents the Award for Best Performance to Christopher Judge
Two-time Tony Award winner, two-time Emmy winner, and Academy Award winner, Al Pacino of The God Father (1972) surprised viewers at The Game Awards 2022 to present the nominees and the award for Best Performance. Christopher Judge received the award for his performance in God of War Ragnarök, delivering a speech in thanks to his supporters and the team behind the 2022 franchise hit.
Judge has become an industry stalwart with his portrayal of Kratos, and went on to give viewers a few moving recollections of his time working on the game.
Hozier and Bear McCreary Perform ‘Blood Upon the Snow’ from God of War Ragnarök
The track debuted with the release of God of War Ragnarök as part of its original soundtrack, quickly becoming one of the many factors contributing to the game’s massive success. Kicking off the entertainment for the evening, American musician and composer, Bear McCreary, and Irish singer/songwriter Hozier performed a special rendition of their track.
The performance saw support from Scottish composer Lorne Balfe and The Game Awards orchestra, with McCreary on the hurdy-gurdy, a hand-cranked string instrument.

The actors and filmmaker surprised fans with an appearance at the event, promoting their upcoming flick, ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.’ Together, the trio announced news of the newest purchasable item from the Among Us game store – a Glass Onion-themed suit.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Trailer Pays Tribute to Kevin Conroy
Conroy voiced DC’s Batman across several years, beginning with 1992’s Batman: The Animated Series. The American actor passed away due to cancer in November of this year, leaving behind a three-decade-long legacy as the renowned fictional vigilante.
The trailer reveal came with an end-note, stating, “Thank you, Kevin,” after which Keighley confirmed Conroy’s voice as Batman in the upcoming Suicide Squad game, releasing on May 26, 2023.
Star Wars: Jedi Survivor Star Cameron Monaghan Presents Official Gameplay Reveal Trailer
The ‘Shameless’ actor will return as the main protagonist Cal Kestis in the upcoming Star Wars game. Taking the stage light-saber, Monaghan admitted, “I had the chance to play the game recently, and I can honestly say that this is one of the best Star Wars games of all time. And that’s saying something.”
Star Wars: Jedi Survivor is set to release next year on March 17.
Hideo Kojima Reveals Death Stranding 2 Trailer
Making his third appearance at The Game Awards, Kojima debuted the Norman Reedus starrer, Death Stranding 2 trailer, stating, “I can’t really be specific right now, but you’ve just seen the trailer and I’ve put a lot of things inside, so I want you guys to talk about it and find the details in it.”
The revered Japanese video game designer also offered behind-the-scenes information about the upcoming installment. “I had the story written before the pandemic, but after experiencing the pandemic, I just rewrote the whole thing, the whole story, from scratch. I also didn’t want to predict any more future so I rewrote it,” he revealed.

Slated to begin after The Game Awards 2022 closes, Sky x Aurora is a virtual concert based within the open-world social indie game, Sky: Children of the Light. The Norwegian singer/songwriter also praised her experience working with Chen and the thatgamecompany team.
The duo delivered a short note on what Sky x Aurora promises, encouraging viewers to tune in after their TGA viewing.
Special Performance from Halsey with ‘Lilith’
The American singer/songwriter delivered a performance of ‘Lilith,’ from her 2021 visual album, ‘If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power.’ The appearance teased Halsey’s upcoming collaboration with Diablo IV.
Following the performance, Diablo IV revealed its official release date trailer, concluding with the text, “All Hell Breaks Loose.” The game will release on June 6, 2023.
Last of Us’ HBO Cast and Voice Actors Present Award For Best Action Game
Fans of the action-adventure smash hit were treated to a special appearance from both the original voice actors for Joel and Ellie in the video games and from the upcoming HBO series. Troy Baker (video game Joel) and Ashley Johnson (video game Ellie) revealed that they have already seen the series, praising actors Pedro Pascal (HBO series Joel) and Bella Ramsey (HBO series Ellie) for their work on-screen.
The group went on to present the nominees and award for Best Action Game, announcing Bayonetta 3 as the winner of this year’s category.

Crash Bandicoot “Crashed The Show” To Reveal Trailer for Crash Team Rumble
Crash Team Rumble confirms that “fans can play as Crash, Dingodile, and a host of other friends and frenemies, each of which has their own distinct power, personality, and playstyle.” The game has not yet revealed its release date, only having mentioned the year 2023.
Wrapping up the ceremony, Keighley announced The Game Awards’ 10th anniversary next year. To celebrate the milestone, TGA will host a special performance at the Hollywood Bowl on June 25, 2023, with support from the LA Philharmonic.
