DJ Minx, Moodymann, Carlita, and More to Play in Tulum on January 11

Papaya Playa Project is set to host DJ Minx, Moodymann, Carlita x DJ Tennis (Astra Club), and more in Tulum at Life and Death on Wednesday, January 11, 2022, from 8 PM onwards. Tickets for this event are powered by Ticket Fairy

Founded in 2010, the Italian record label Life and Death is also DJ Tennis’ event brand that “curates soulful dance music with a post-rock aesthetic.” They are known for throwing events with a stellar “line-up, unique locations and a culturally demanding audience.”

“Announcing our incredible line up kicking off our 2023 “Expanding Matter” @papayaplayaproject where dreams will be made,” Life and Death wrote on Instagram. “Taking over this otherworldly location to begin the year with bracing energy.”

Manifredo Romano AKA DJ Tennis is the founder of the Life and Death record label. Before committing to music, he formed DAZE – the “first booking agency in Italy devoted to electronic music.” Soon after, in 2010, he cemented himself as a great DJ who could bring a feeling of togetherness and warmth to the biggest of audiences and crowds.

The Italy-born DJ has taken various stages across the globe, including Woodstock, Burning Man, Movement Hart Plaza Detroit, Life and Death Barcelona, and the Lost Village festival. He played at Hï Ibiza with Grammy-winning South African DJ Black Coffee and Desiree.

Carlita is a Turkish DJ/producer who has played for Mayan Warrior’s 10-year anniversary, Circoloco Bogota, and some of the most renowned venues and festivals, including fabric London, Lightning in a Bottle, Garbicz Festival and Tomorrowland. She got behind the decks with Innellea at SXM Festival, played b2b sets with DJ Tennis at many venues, hit the road all year in 2022, performed for the Louis Vuitton cruise show, Fendi NYFW after party, and played alongside Diplo. 

The Istanbul-born producer remixed BLOND:ISH’s ‘Sete,’ Diplo’s ‘Don’t Be Afraid’ with DJ Tennis, and rolled out ‘Cinecittà’ with DJ Tennis and Alex Metric, among other releases last year. Last month, Carlita revealed that Pete Tong had invited her to be a part of his Sunrise Special Hot Mix Series for BBC Radio.

After sharing a stage multiple times, Carlita and DJ Tennis started a new collaborative project, calling themselves Astra Club. They debuted their new music project, Senza Fine, in September during New York Fashion Week.

DJ Minx, who was named one of the top “20 women who shaped the history of dance music” by Mixmag, is also on the bill. She is a house and techno DJ/producer from Detroit who has established herself as one of house music’s greatest DJs. Known as the First Lady of Wax, she also formed the Women on Wax – a collective of female DJs.

This renowned producer has been a DJ since the early 1990s and launched the record label ‘Women on Wax’ to spotlight local and talented artists worldwide “to create electronic music deeply rooted in the unique rhythm of Detroit.” She was also a resident DJ at Club Motor, where DJ Minx played opening sets for the finest local and international DJs.

Swiss musician and DJ Jimi Jules saw much success when he collaborated with German producer Oliver Dollar on the single ‘Puhing On’. It peaked at number 15 on the UK Singles Chart and became a hit in Europe. Jules has had releases on Innervisions and played in cities including New York, Dubai, Paris, and London last year. He has also taken the Caprices festival stage in 2022.

Kalabrese – DJ/producer from Zurich and co-owner of Club Zukunft, has rolled out the singles ‘Last Drive (Long Version)’ with Lapcat, ‘Kevin and Sandra,’ ‘Eight Bars,’ and an eleven-track album ‘Let Love Rumpel (Part 2)’ in October last year.

Moodymann is a Detroit-based iconic DJ/producer and founder of Mahogani Music, who started out as a “hip-hop beatmaker” in the early 90s. He also launched the label KDJ Records in 1994. 

Rosano is Papaya Playa Project’s resident DJ.
