After years of self-releasing music on the best labels in EDM, Canadian DJ and producer Ekali is all set to start his own label, Awakening Records.
Infusing a range of styles and influences, Canadian DJ and producer Ekali has become the go-to man for visceral solo productions and forward-thinking edits of the biggest tunes. Rising to fame after receiving a writing credit on Drake’s ‘If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late,’ Ekali has gone on to rack up millions of streams on his music. The Canadian extraordinaire’s music ranges from bombastic trap bangers to melancholic delicate downtempo offerings.
After signing to Skrillex’s OWSLA in 2015, Ekali’s soaring style of music saw him collaborate with electronic music titans like ZHU, Ta-ku, and Illenium, to name a few. His debut single on OWSLA called ‘Babylon’ also received a signature flip from label boss Skrillex. Some of Ekali’s biggest hits include his synth-heavy tribute to Flux Pavilion’s seminal ‘I Can’t Stop,’ ‘Leaving’ with Yuna, and many more.
Years after self-releasing music across the biggest imprints in dance music, Ekali has now announced his own label called Awakening Records, with its first single set to drop in the first week of February. Awakening Records comes as an extension of his famed Awakening mix series, which saw him bring all his influences into a single mix.
For many years, Awakening served as the platform through which Ekali mesmerized us, and it is geared up to turn into a culmination of Ekali’s music and the artists who are part of the same expansive artistic thread as his own. Ekali’s last release came in August 2022 which was his riveting tribute to Emalkay’s ‘When I Look At You,’ and his first of the year on his newly formed label will kickstart a new era in Ekali’s already successful career.
