FOVOS Drops a Pulsating DnB Flip for Masked Wolf

Moving away from house and techno, New Zealand-based duo FOVOS take up the rapid lands of drum & bass on Masked Wolf’s 2022 tune.

Modern-day electronic music has reached a point where it’s turning overly technical, but New Zealand-based duo FOVOS are bringing the nostalgia back into dance music, and they are doing it in style. Championing a sound that finds a sweet spot between techno and house music, FOVOS have been delivering their unmistakable style since their debut in 2020.

Mario & Lorenzo, who form FOVOS, draw inspiration from multiple styles and genres, with a heavy focus on the nostalgic rave scenes of the 90s. The nostalgia is then plugged in with dark atmospheres, gritty baselines, and brutal rave synths that pay homage to the schematics of underground techno music. FOVOS has released music on labels like Teamwrk Records and Hardwell’s Revealed Recordings while receiving heavy support from Alok, Eli & Fur, and Kryder, to name a few.

As the duo kicks off the new year, FOVOS moves away from their go-to hybrid of house and techno; and they have now taken a dip into the rapid trenches of drum & bass for a remix. The rework comes for Masked Wolf, whose name should not come as a surprise. The Australian artist was all over the internet thanks to his 2021 number ‘Astronaut In The Ocean,’ which racked up over one billion streams on Spotify.

Debuting as a moody hip-hop track in the home end of last year, ‘Butterflies & Bandaids’ boasts Masked Wolf’s quintessential raspy vocals against hard-hitting introspective lyrics, with Masked Wolf also having released a remix package of his tune. Tasked with working their magic on the original, FOVOS edge away from their signature blend of techno and tech house influences to create a fast-paced, gritty, drum & bass dancefloor banger.

Speaking about their remix, FOVOS said, “It’s absolutely crazy to land a remix this big! We’re so stoked to try something different and put out some heavy drum ‘n’ bass rather than house and techno.”

While this latest remix is FOVOS’ first lean into escalated drum & bass swagger, it also exemplifies the duo’s prowess for expansive production techniques. Listen to the remix below:
