Earth Beat Festival, a five-day event bustling with art, live music, workshops, forums, exhibitions, wellness programs, and more, blossoms from March 22–26, 2023. With a focus on inspiring and empowering new ways of living, the festival will come alive from Tiu Creek Regional Park, Tapora, located in the Kaipara Harbour south of the Oruawharo River. As mentioned on the festival’s website, “The kaupapa/purpose of Earth Beat is to co-create a platform for transformation and celebration through strengthening our relationship and connection with the Earth and each other.” Earth Beat calls for revitalization, creating new associations, and returning to the world grounded, inspired, and uplifted. The family-friendly melting pot of music and art will feature five stages, over seventy live performers, and more than sixty workshops on health, body movement, yoga, and wellness sessions.

People of all ages and generations are welcome at the festival, including kids under the age of fourteen, who receive free admission. The Youth Stage, a first at EB2023, will serve as an opportunity for budding musicians to showcase their skills and network. The other four massive stages will feature dub, house, techno, folk, reggae, jazz, indie, deep house, and electronica music by some of the finest acts in Aotearoa.
Roots/dub/rock/blues outfit Lost Tribe Aotearoa, reggae duo Issac Chambers & Dub Princess, 5-piece rock, DnB and hip-hop outfit Knights of the Dub Table, acid-jazz/nu jazz/soul/funk DJ duo Mo Horizons, dub legend Mad Professor, one of NZ’s underground bass music scene’s finest Paige Julia, percussionist and tribal-folk dance music producer Drumspyder, and a plethora of musicians across multiple genres will be seen across the four stages. Activities and exhibitions for every age will be spread across the five days: stand-up comedy shows, theater presentations, fire and flow routines, spoken word, and poetry reading sessions. Body movement, therapy, yoga, and a variety of interactive, immersive sessions led by some of the best speakers, facilitators, and workshop leaders are also on the agenda.
In keeping with the festival’s ethos, Earth Beat is a ‘leave no trace, leave no waste’ event. Attendees are encouraged to carry reusable plates, bowls, cups, cutlery, water bottles, etc. Food purchased at the festival will be served on these plates and bowls. On-site, there will be several washing stations and compost bins stationed in the marketplace and camping area. A Zero Waste Crew will be on hand for any assistance or inquiries.
