One of the deadliest earthquakes to strike in a century left more than 40,000 people dead and caused serious destruction in Turkey and Syria. The 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck both countries, while its tremors were felt in neighboring countries such as Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt, and Cyprus. Buildings have collapsed, homes have turned into debris, families and infants are trapped under rubble, health facilities have been destroyed, thousands of people are dead, and millions have been affected by the earthquake and are in dire need of humanitarian assistance.
The grim situation in Syria is devastating as the people of Syria were already in need of humanitarian aid due to the 12-year-old civil war that has also hindered and complicated earthquake relief.
People in Syria and Turkey are in need of basic necessities such as food, clean water, healthcare, and shelter. It is also the coldest season of the year in Syria, further devastating those that have been rendered homeless. People need clothes, baby food, blankets, and more. Immediate relief to these regions is imperative, and therefore we need to reach out and donate as much as we can to make a huge difference. We’ve compiled a list of organizations that are helping the survivors and those affected by the deadly earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.
AHBAP
The non-governmental organization Ahbap was founded in 2017. It is helping with relief efforts in Turkey, and donating to this non-profit will help them provide things that the people in Turkey are in dire need of, like medical supplies, food, and shelter.

Global Giving
Funds are needed to meet survivors’ immediate needs like medicine, shelter, food, and clean water, as many have been displaced and have become homeless due to the destruction caused by the earthquakes. Global Giving has a goal of raising $5,000,000 to meet emergency needs.
Donations to Global Giving will help provide temporary housing, medicines for survivors, shelter, “psycho-social and mental health support to survivors,” and much more to those affected by the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. With these donations, this non-profit organization, founded in 2002, will provide emergency relief to those affected.
