Canfest 2023 is a ten-day theatre festival (March 19-28) that will congregate several theater production groups and famed directors from around the country to showcase their forms, patterns, and artistic styles. This year’s event will feature ten stage plays in multiple Indian languages, with a focus on the production of plays based on Indian and Western classics. Theater admirers are invited to attend discussions, seminars and presentations with distinguished members of the country’s theater community. *Rangapat theatre’s Madea* Directors, screenplay writers, and dialogue writers such as Sanjay Uppadhaya, Suryamohan Kulshreshta, and Mushtaq Kak will stage their plays in this festival, which will be held in the prestigious Jaydev Sadan auditorium. Day one opens with Lucknow-based group Nipa Rang Mandali presenting ‘Bhagawadjjukeyam,’ a satirical drama play. The festival will also have performances by the Patna-based theater group [Nirman Kala ](http://www.en.nirmankalamanch.org/)Manch, formed in 1988; Kolkata’s Rangapat Theatre, renowned for its retelling of the Greek tragedy of Medea, granddaughter of Helias; and Badungduppa Kalakendra, a cultural society from Assam that aims to improve theater in the northeast of India, among many others.
