8 Artists That Have Co-chaired The Met Gala

One of the biggest events in fashion is right around the corner! The 2023 Met Gala will be held on May 1, 2023, with the Academy Award-winning star PenĂ©lope Cruz, pop sensation Dua Lipa, Emmy winner Michaela Coel, tennis legend Roger Federer, and Anna Wintour as co-chairs. The Met Gala took place on a Monday in 2005 for the first time when Anna Wintour, Nicole Kidman, and Karl Lagerfeld co-chaired the night with Caroline, Princess of Hanover, as the honorary chair. The theme of the 2005 Met Gala was ‘House of Chanel,’ so it was fitting for Lagerfeld to take on co-chairing duties as the creative director of the fashion brand Chanel.

This year, the Met Gala celebrates Karl Lagerfeld’s life and work with the theme ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.’ The dress code is in honor of Karl for his contributions as the creative director of Chanel from 1983 till his death in 2019. Over the years, among the actors, socialities, and other big names, some artists have also joined the editor-in-chief of American Vogue, Anna Wintour, as co-chairs at the Met Gala. Let’s take a look at singers who have co-chaired Met Gala through the years –

Harry Styles and Lady Gaga

The 2019 Met Gala saw five co-chairs – Lady Gaga, Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele, Anna Wintour, Harry Styles, and the iconic tennis player Serena Williams. Harry Styles is now known for his colorful shirts, sparkling boots, jumpsuits, and high-waisted trousers.

Styles doesn’t always stick to traditional shirts, pants, and skin-tight jeans, leading him to be celebrated as one of the best-dressed men as he sports colorful suits, trousers, bell bottoms, and flares. For his appearance at the 2019 Met Gala, Styles wore a black sheer blouse, black high-waisted trousers, and accessorized with a pearl earring. The ‘As It Was’ singer also painted his nails and completed the look with chunky men’s heels.

From her risk-taking meat dress she wore to the 2010 MTV Video Music to her unique, avant-garde style, Lady Gaga is undoubtedly one of the biggest fashion icons. The ‘A Star Is Born’ actress stunned the world with her Brandon Maxwell piece at the 2019 Met Gala. She delivered not one or two, but FOUR looks that night!

The ‘Rain On Me’ singer, who is known for her bold fashion choices, first appeared in a voluminous pink cape dress. The Grammy-winning artist revealed a black dress underneath it and posed for the cameras with an umbrella. Her third outfit was a hot pink silk dress and she held a black telephone while wearing oversized sunglasses. Gaga stripped down to her sparkling lingerie, fishnets, and heels for her final look!
