SJD to Kick off the Sweetheart Tour in New Zealand On June 23

Kiwi multi-instrumentalist and producer Sean James Donnelly, better known by his famed initials SJD, sets off on a cross-country tour of New Zealand this June! Beginning on June 23, 2023, in Dunedin, the pop-rock, soul, and electronic artist goes on to take his musical exploits to stages in Christchurch, Auckland, and Wellington. The tour celebrates SJD’s ninth album, ‘Sweetheart,’ which was released in late 2022. Get your tickets to SJD’s tour in New Zealand from The Ticket Fairy.

Produced by Auckland-based live music agency Banished Music, SJD: The Sweetheart Tour Aotearoa 2023 was announced in April this year. After kicking off at The Crown Hotel in Dunedin on June 23, his live act will make its way to Space Academy in Christchurch on June 24, Auckland’s Hollywood Avondale on June 30, and Meow in Wellington on July 1, 2023. Attendees can expect an angelic blend of soul-pop ballads, soothing electronica arrangements, folk, synth-pop, indie rock, post-rock fragments, and more!

Talking about his mini-album ‘Sweetheart’ with Stuff Entertainment, SJD described it as “psychological pop songs.” He said, “There are hummable tunes, weird-a** arrangements and a bunch of words that I overthink for months on end – all coming together in a slightly angular fashion but delivered with as much warmth and love as I can muster. I’d also hope that there is some potential to heal in the music too, however small that potential may be.”

Banished Music is an Auckland-based independent agency that promotes artists, music, and slots in live performances across Aotearoa. In recent months, the company has helmed a string of shows with indie folk band Tiny Ruins, singer-songwriter Grace Cummings, and rock outfit D4.
