Arrows Releases Debut EP, ‘Friends Tonight, Strangers Again’

Mumbai-based musician and songwriter David Britto, best known for his collaborative musical project Arrows, has released his debut EP ‘Friends Tonight, Strangers Again,’ heavily featuring Indian indie music scene stalwarts Warren Mendonsa, Siddharth Basrur, Saurabh Roy, duo Second Sight, Saachi, and more.

Arrows’ new five-track EP kicks off with previously released singles ‘Fight This Fight‘ (featuring Siddharth Basrur and Warren Mendonsa) and ‘Carnaby,’ which lassoes in vocals from singer/guitarist Saurabh Roy of The Lightyears Explode and members from Bombay Brass who deliver upbeat horn segments. ‘Take It Away,’ first concocted in 2018, reels in Britto’s former bandmate Joel Padikkal of The Tripp on vocal duties and flares out a hard-rock/grunge-esque tune fueled by fiery guitar riffs.

The EP next hits listeners with ‘Can We Be,’ ushering in the musical prowess of Anusha Ramasubramoney and Pushkar Srivatsal aka Second Sight. The tune slips in sleek guitar work, steady drum action, and harmonizing vocal textures. ‘You’ rounds out ‘Friends Tonight, Strangers Again,’ with indie artist Saachi lending her voice to the piece laid over melancholic piano elements.

In a neat lyrical call-back, ‘Fight This Fight’ spews out the lyrics “It gathers rust – only for you to bury it in the dust,” which alludes to Arrows’ previous 2021 release ‘Buried to Dust‘ (feat. Siddharth Basrur). The EP’s title is also derived from the outro lyrics of ‘Take It Away’ – “We’re friends tonight – but we’re strangers when – we’re face to face again.”

Speaking about this release, Arrows expressed, “The EP falls into the rock realm as that’s my forte. When it comes to inspiration, each song on the record has its own story and they aren’t necessarily linked by a particular theme of sorts, but they are cohesively meant to be together sonically. The EP covers themes of hope, living in someone else’s shoes, wanting to do without a particular aspect of life, wanting what you can’t have, and finding peace in oneself.”

“I am truly blessed that I get to work with some of the best Indian indie artists and I am very grateful that those I’ve asked to be part of this EP, said yes to it in a heartbeat. The EP is nothing without these collaborators, they help bring these songs to life,” he added about collaborating with so many versatile artists.
