Swara Delves Into the Uncertainties of Love on Her Debut Single, ‘gone’

Newcomer Swara talks about plunging into the Indian independent music scene with her vibrant debut offering, ‘gone.’
With a robust catalog of music already locked and loaded, Bangalore-based R&B/pop singer-songwriter Swara has unleashed her maiden release with ‘gone.’ Woven with dulcet melodies from the get-go by Mumbai-based producer Sudan, ‘gone’ quickly nabs attention with Swara’s conspicuous vocals; quintessentially pop but carrying nuances of Hindustani classical music.
The debut track chronicles the stupor and complexities of a love-hate relationship. “I wrote ‘gone’ during this phase when I found myself making decisions I knew I’d probably regret – but in my head, I’d think, “Okay, when else am I going to get to do this” – and I’d make them anyway,” Swara unveiled the situation about penning her song. “The lyrics of ‘gone’ are just my thoughts running back and forth between my actual feelings and what’s rational. Most of the music I make is emotionally unfiltered that way.”
Growing up in a highly artistic family, it was only a matter of time before Swara would eventually get the ball rolling for her quest in music. Now, as she officially breezes into the scene, the artist is nothing but stoked! “A lot of time, effort, and patience has gone into the project and I’m very grateful that it’s come to fruition,” she says about her debut, while also detailing her journey and decision to emerge as a musician. “As I got older I found myself feeling lots of intense emotions that I didn’t know how to express. I’d write them down as poetry and hum them in flows. I realized I wanted to create an aural comfort for people who felt the same intensity of emotions as I did. So I made up my mind to start releasing my work.”
Swara’s influences and inspirations are delicately laced in ‘gone,’ as it calls back to her roots of Hindustani classical music while stunningly displaying her penchant for pop and R&B. “My personal playlists have always been heavy on RnB/Soul and Pop. But as a musician, my first language is Hindustani Classical,” she reveals. “‘gone’ is primarily a Pop song but several of the notes that I bounce around are typical of Hindustani – I think it’s a fun style that I’ve found for myself.”
As we wound up our conversation, Swara gave us a peak of what’s to come next, titillated by her upcoming EP ‘limbo,’ a collaboration with electro-pop duo LAVI & Foenix, as well as a second EP – all of which she is yet to roll out. “The whole ‘limbo’ EP has a special place in my heart. Apart from the fact that it’s my debut, it also comes from a place of raw honesty and love,” she said in anticipation of her opus. “Each track is so precious to me that I want my listeners to fully take in the essence of each one – which is why I’m dropping every song from the album as a single.”
