Mumbai-based five-piece hip-hop collective Wild Wild Women has released their newest eponymous multilingual single.
Wild Wild Women follow up ‘Living Waves’ (released earlier this year) and their much-loved debut single ‘I Do It For Hip Hop’ with a bopping new self-titled hip-hop track. The nearly three-minute outing is produced by music producer Sohail Shaikh aka DRJ Sohail, famed for his work with acts Divine, MC Altaf, Munawar Faruqui, and Dopeadelicz. Via this release, Wild Wild Women disassembles patriarchal assumptions about women not being able to achieve landmark junctures in their lives, featuring lyrics in Hindi, Marathi, English, Tamil, and Kannada.
The song unfurls with a Hindi-worded chorus, underscored by victorious horn themes, as HashtagPreeti and MC Mahila charge in to produce a flowing rap duet. Pratika, fresh off her debut EP, leaps next with verses in English as the rest of the crew dishes out backing vocal segments. JQueen and Krantinaari shoot firey rap bars in Tamil and Kannada, with the catchy chorus forming the outro.
Speaking about their self-titled single, Wild Wild Women shared with us, “It’s been quite a ground-breaking journey for all of us as artists up to this point. We’ve been able to work with so many different people over time, and DRJ Sohail really brought out the Indian flavour, while the tone was a mix of fierce, fearless, and powerful, just like a Wild Wild Women track should be! We’ve written this song in five languages; probably the first Indian song with five female rappers in this way. We have some very big announcements and super-exciting things coming up, so stay tuned. We’re gonna blow 2024 up!”
The song is accompanied by a music video filmed at the Covelong Classic festival in Chennai, India, which took place in August 2023.
