With music rooted in Celtic, English, Balkan, and Greek traditions, their goal is to revitalize the folk music scene in New Zealand and eventually worldwide. “For people not from Christchurch, I hope that there’s a sense of interest googling any of the references will pretty quickly reveal what I’m singing about,” says frontperson Starr, speaking ahead of the song’s release. ‘The Goblin of Christchurch,’ The Norwesters’ newest endeavor, is billed as a homage to the city of Christchurch. The jumpy/dancy upbeat melody is cobbled together with a tasteful string opening, hooky lyrics, quickfire drums, and rapid lute segments. Starr delved into their intentions of creating the track, expressing, “I wanted it to be very traditional folk, so I’ve included a lot of very specific local references in it, which is why the lyrics might sound strange to people not from Christchurch.” [The Goblin of Christchurch](https://www.youtube.com/embed/LETHzrppu6M?feature=oembed) *‘The Goblin of Christchurch’ – The Norwesters* Post the release, the band is slated to lead the masses into a frantic medley of jigs at the upcoming [Rhythm & Alps 2023](https://www.ticketfairy.com/event/rhythm-alps-2023) spectacle. This multi-day showcase at Robrosa Station, Cardrona, also marks the band’s debut music festival appearance. TFword had the opportunity to catch Christopher Starr performing in India at Mumbai’s bustling hive of music, art, wellness, and culture, 3 Art House in Khar. The guitarist/vocalist performed a forty-minute set in an intimate setting of fifteen people. Starr’s setlist included the age-old English ballad ‘[The Oak and the Ash](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yM_1gLvySHw)‘ (The North Country Maid), The Dubliners’ evergreen adaptation of Irish poet D. K.
