Commencing January 4, this upcoming DREAMER Tour sees the British Pakistani artist take her magnetic music for the first time to Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney in Australia, while Auckland and Wellington will host Nabihah in New Zealand. The electronic/experimental artist will perform at Meow (Wellington) on January 16 and at Neck of the Woods (Auckland) on January 17, 2024.
Talking about the tour, the former legal professional shared with us “It’s going to be my first time in New Zealand and so I’m really excited just about being there. I’m looking forward to meeting more southern hemisphere fans and to getting some time to explore Auckland and Wellington.”
Iqbal’s sophomore album, ‘DREAMER,’ was released in April last year and features ten alluring tracks crafted on the back of a studio theft, costing the artist two years’ worth of music. The album oozes experimental electronica, dreamy pop, and post-punk influences, tied in with an expansive medley of instruments, including sitars and a harmonium acquired during a visit to Pakistan.
She says, “I’ve been touring the album all around the world since May 2023 and I hope the New Zealand audiences will enjoy the shows. We’ll be doing a special duo live show which is slightly different from the full band set-up, but just as fun, and the crowds will definitely also be hearing about my process of writing the songs… it’s mostly just me geeking out, ha!”
In an interview with 10magazine.com, Nabihah Iqbal described her music as “Reverb-y. Emotional. Transcendental.” Adding an intriguing comment about the musical instruments used in the album, she remarked, “This is the first time I’ve included instruments from my Pakistani heritage in my music. The album starts and ends with the harmonium I bought in Pakistan, and you can hear the sitar on ‘Lilac Twilight’. It was a challenge to incorporate those sounds, but I think I’ve done it in a way which fits my sonic palette. It feels like a new part of my musical journey, embracing those instruments and making them fit with what I do.”
