Released in 2014, Emulation marked a turning point in neurofunk, with Mefjus’ signature blend of razor-sharp sound design, intricate percussion, and intense energy. Ten years after the release of his groundbreaking, award-winning debut LP Emulation, Austrian drum & bass innovator Mefjus is revisiting his masterpiece with a fresh twist. Teaming up with his label-mates at Critical Music, he presents five of the album’s most iconic tracks, reimagined and redefined for 2024 through a series of cutting-edge remixes.
Emulation X features Mefjus himself with a lung-bursting remake of the title track. He’s then joined by Label heavyweights Enei and Calyx who take on two classics, infusing their unique styles into the originals. Enei reimagines Suicide Bassline as an ultra-hard, minimal jump-up weapon, while Calyx twists Surrounded with his signature molten basslines, making the track distinctly his own.
Rounding out the collection are two of Critical’s freshest talents. VISLA reinvents Saturate, turning it from a brooding roller into a gritty, dancefloor-ready stomper. Meanwhile, Bristol’s SMG updates Change of Mind featuring MC Maksim, giving the track a bold, modern edge while staying true to its anthemic roots.
