Utilizing samples as a cornerstone, SYEYL’s new record blissfully opens to sitar plucks and vocal snippets fetched from YouTube on ‘Ecstasy,’ delivering an organic-electro punch affixed with crafty work on the synthesizer. Sitting next is ‘Ficus,’ built with a melodic curl and combed with reflective arrangements and breakbeat surfaces. It pulls inspiration from poet and author Sylvia Plath’s ‘[The Bell Jar](https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/7511-i-saw-my-life-branching-out-before-me-like-the),’ which employs a fig tree as a metaphor to illustrate the dilemma of deciding between numerous possible futures. For SYEYL, this tune “signifies taking a leap and trusting your gut feeling.” ‘Electric Dreams’ dishes out a wistful aura with oscillating melodic patterns and an injection of rapid percussive rhythms, while ‘Seaglass’ throws down a steady 122 BPM score. ‘Rave In A Forest’ takes a page from ambient experimental composers from Japan in the 1970s and 80s and drives forward with pulsating rhythms, flitering synths, and robust bass action. A somber yet enchanting atmospheric score, ‘Ego Death’ serves as the final track on the EP. It is touted as “an ode to a distant memory.” Speaking about the EP, SYEYL shared in a press note, “My sophomore EP – Temporal Drift, is about the mind drifting to past memories or the future and an inability to stay in the present.
