New Delhi-based composer, producer, and graphic artist Sijya has released the first single from her upcoming EP, ‘Leather & Brass.’
Newly signed to One Little Independent Records (UK), Sijya has followed up on her well-received and career-elevating debut EP ‘Young Hate’ (2022), and delivered to streaming platforms the lead single from her upcoming six-track record.
On ‘Tabla,’ the multi-faceted artist etches out an injection of indie-electronica, drenched in a medley of gaudy synths, ethereal textures, and buttery vocals. Stitched in is a single tabla sample, which serves as the outro of the atmospheric/downtempo composition.
“The song is about forcing yourself to go through the ordeal of believing in yourself,” explained Sija via press release. “It’s also about not letting other people (especially men) do things that seem hard for me. That makes me feel weak and hollow. This work is all mine. It’s imperfect, but I wouldn’t have anyone else make it theirs.”
Sijya’s EP ‘Leather & Brass’ is scheduled for a September 12 release date via UK-based label One Little Independent Records. The producer and composer is also the first Indian artist to be picked up by this record label and now sits on a roster alongside names such as Foxtrott, SHHE, Laura Misch, Glasser, AVAWAVES, and Björk.
“Signing to OLI was unexpected and feels incredible,” expressed Sijya in a press note. “They have a long history of supporting strong and serious female musicians. Björk is the ultimate matriarch of us misfits. This is thrilling and somewhat nerve-racking, too. It’s definitely fuelled a lot of new energy into me and faith.”
