Directed by Gorillaz co-creator and artist **Jamie Hewlett**, along with **Max Taylor** and **Tim McCourt**from animation studio THE LINE, the film was made over a time span of 18 months. THE LINE [called](https://www.instagram.com/reel/DVRGvr3iFBj/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==) it “a true love letter to the golden era of 2D animation,” while reimagining the world of Gorillaz through a classic cinematic lens. “We even used a variety of practical effects in the film, which was a lot of fun to do. We had a brilliant time making this film and learnt a huge amount while studying the masters of the 60s and 70s,” further [noted](https://www.instagram.com/reel/DVRGvr3iFBj/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==) the globally renowned animation studio online. A team of over 80 professionals is credited with the project. Its opening sequences pay a clear homage to the 1967 animated movie ‘**The Jungle Book**,’ beginning with a brown-colored book bearing the title. Noodle struts through the lush green woods before being joined by the rest of the gang. Animators sprinkle in appearances from a snake with hypnotic eyes (Kaa) and a lurking tiger (Shere Khan) to complete the tribute. Acclaimed flutist and collaborator on four of the fifteen tracks, **Ajay Prasanna**, also makes a quick cameo.
