For this venture, her custom-built drum kit, equipped with flashing lights, was stationed on a waterfront, snow-clad spot in the Alaskan wilderness. Spanning nearly an hour, Neon Pony puts on a stellar hybrid set, threaded with multiple percussion instruments, vocalizations and energetic servings of Afro house, melodic house, and progressive house throughout. The video presentation cuts between shots of the whole setup and sweeping views of the frosty landscape. The “icing” on the performance arrives with views of the aurora borealis or northern lights, providing a celestial backdrop to the entire spectacle. Unexpected snow. Ice under my feet. A leotard bodysuit. No gloves. Battling freezing temperatures, equipment failures, numb fingers, and the raw force of nature trying to shut it all down, this became pure endurance.
