Bass Music Icons Noisia Are Making Their Grand Return

The Dutch trio will reunite as a unit this December, with more announcements expected in the coming months.

Christmas has arrived a little earlier than anticipated for bass music heads around the world. Noisia, the inspirational Dutch super trio whose music influenced two and more generations of listeners, producers and DJs, are making a grand and entirely unexpected comeback, seven years after bringing the project to a close.

The trio shared the news in a heartfelt statement that caught everyone off guard. They revealed that they will reunite as Noisia this December, returning to the studio and the stage after exploring their individual creative paths. For a group that had seemingly closed the book on its story, the announcement opens an entirely new chapter.

When Noisia ended in 2019, it was not a decision made lightly. After nearly two decades of pushing themselves into the deepest creative pits, the trio had reached what they described as a deadlock. They had tried everything they could to find a way through it, only to realize that the answer was not in trying harder or forcing the project forward, and it was time to simply do what’s right and let go.

The three members went their separate ways, immersing themselves in their own interests, solo projects and collaborations. But the creative coil that kept them together as a trio never completely disappeared. They continued to work from the same building, with their three studios occupying a shared space. They were also involved in building VISION, the label and creative platform they created together, and, perhaps most importantly, remained friends.

The environment they were part of after the split but still coming together eventually became action. They began spending more time together, even taking up bouldering as a shared activity, and slowly, almost organically, ideas for Noisia began to take shape again. The inevitable happened, the music started flowing, and the desire to return to the stage followed.

This time, however, Noisia are approaching the project differently. Rather than rushing toward a new release or attempting to recreate what they had before, the trio intends to take its time. They plan to revisit their extensive back catalog while exploring the new material they have been creating together.

The studio and the stage will become part of the same creative process. New ideas will be tested in front of audiences, the experience of those shows will feed back into their production, and the resulting music will be tested again. It is a process built around experimentation, iteration and, importantly, having fun with the music again.

The first step in that process will take place on December 4 at Melkweg Amsterdam, one of the group’s most familiar and beloved venues. The show will mark the beginning of Noisia’s new chapter, with further announcements expected to follow.

Making their debut in 2003 until their split in 2019 and delivering four stunning studio albums and countless defining tunes, Noisia demolished any and every boundary that existed in bass music and carved out a world that everybody could access but not replicate.

The timing of Noisia’s comeback could not be more on point. As bass music continues to blur its lines, Noisia’s influence remains deeply embedded in the scene. Now, the trio that helped redraw those boundaries is back in the studio. What comes next is anyone’s guess, but if their return carries the same curiosity and experimentation that defined their original run, we’re in for something extraordinary.

For now, there is a stage waiting in Amsterdam. The machines are switched back on. Noisia are coming home.
