The trio now submits an exploration of culture, heritage, and the Indian diasporic experience with their new album &#8216;Thugs From Amritsar.&#8217;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Previous releases &#8211; &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticketfairy.com\/word\/2024\/05\/30\/pav4n-sonnyjim-and-kartik-form-pataka-boys-drop-new-single\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"ek-link\">Bappi Lahiri<\/a>,&#8217; which takes its title from the now deceased legendary Bollywood singer\/composer Bappi Lahiri and features a guest performance from British-Bengali rapper M.O.N.G.O (Money Or Nothing Goes), and &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticketfairy.com\/word\/2024\/07\/08\/new-music-releases-by-indian-artists-in-june-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"ek-link\">Megaloblast<\/a>,&#8217; that was deliciously sampled with R&amp;B singer Latimore\u2019s soulful track \u2018Dig a Little Deeper\u2018 (1978) &#8211; hinted at the tonality and themes of their upcoming record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Pataka Boys - Megaloblast | Sonnyjim, PAV4N, Kartik | Azadi Records (Official Music Video)\" width=\"702\" height=\"395\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ryitVO63N2Q?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>PATAKA BOYZ &#8211; &#8216;Megaloblast<\/em>&#8216;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Right off the bat on the album-opening &#8216;Black Sabbath,&#8217; we hear a voice clip of the incident involving <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=RoCTNBeAg2o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Esmeralda Upton<\/a> of Plano, Texas, who verbally and physically assaulted four Indian-American women in 2022, as the music builds with rap bars laid over a carpet of rock themes spiked by soulful keys. The title also pays homage to the British heavy metal titans from Birmingham, which also happens to be Sonnyjim&#8217;s hometown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8216;Cheema Kalan&#8217; sets in with an audio sample from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Szo6bEiFo68\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"ek-link\">works<\/a> of iconic Punjabi singer Babbu Maan, while &#8216;Guddi Check&#8217; concocts a grim rhythm and also reels in duo Seedhe Maut to spit rabid rap verses in Hindi. \u2018Punjabi Munde\u2019 is inspired by Sonnyjim&#8217;s first visit back to India in three decades and also sees underground Punjabi hip-hop artist Sikander Kahlonis dish out rap lyrics over a menacing suspense-inducing soundtrack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Pataka Boys - Guddi Check FT. @SeedheMaut | Sonnyjim, PAV4N, Kartik | Azadi Records (Official Video)\" width=\"702\" height=\"395\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-ZkvBj7lmsQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Pataka Boys &#8211; Guddi Check featuring SeedheMaut<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8216;Dettwork South Asia&#8217; once again sees the artists reference the name of the UK hip-hop lynchpin Blak Twang&#8217;s debut album &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/1539Rb9iCTiGf8DDxJ18g1?autoplay=true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dettwork South East<\/a>.&#8217; The outro is minced in with clippings of Indian actor Sanjay Dutt&#8217;s interview on The Ranveer Show <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=nsuqwdz-gKQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">talking <\/a>about drug addiction. Queens-based rapper Heems sits on this tune, while &#8216;Bud Bud Ding Ding,&#8217; a clapback on the offensive slur directed at the South Asian community in Britain, sees Juss Nandhra deliver a spirited Punjabi folk vocal segment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2018Glassy Junction\u2019 rounds out the album, serving as an homage to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www1.camra.org.uk\/pubs\/glassy-junction-southall-164153#:~:text=This%20pub%20is%20Permanently%20Closed&amp;text=Renamed%20in%201993.,of%20the%20Saravana%20Bhavan%20chain.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Glassy Junction<\/a> barroom in Southall, which was owned by Sonnyjim\u2019s uncle. The song begins with a disturbing narrative of the harrowing conditions many Indian families endured during emigration to the UK, likely nicked from a news piece or documentary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With &#8216;Thugs From Amritsar,&#8217; PATAKA BOYS have painstakingly and meticulously molded a multilingual hip-hop archive plugged with notable samples, metaphor-heavy lyrics, and soundbites from classic Punjabi films and folk records. Produced in its entirety by Kartik, the album seamlessly stitches various commonly known locales, historic and current happenings, callbacks, public figures, tributes, commonly used phrases, and pop-culture references.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Addressing this release, PAV4N <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/C9J9DO5Og-I\/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&amp;igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==\" class=\"ek-link\">shared<\/a> a statement on social media, saying, &#8220;This might be one of the most important pieces of work I\u2019ve released to date&#8230; and marks a definite rebirth as an MC Rapper and connection to the Motherland.
