Now making his debut on Junior Jack&#8217;s Adesso Music with &#8216;Massive Organ,&#8217; AndThen delivers perhaps his most fully realized statement yet &#8211; a track that encapsulates everything his production philosophy represents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8216;Massive Organ&#8217; is a masterclass in controlled energy, building its momentum through a framework of roughed-up tech house drums before introducing lush jazz organ stabs that add warmth and musicality to the track&#8217;s robust low-end foundation. The tribal edge that has become AndThen&#8217;s calling card is present and correct, expressed through intricate percussive patterns that give the track its undeniable swing, while balmy pads add atmospheric depth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following the release of this latest chapter in his musical journey, we were eager to explore the creative process behind AndThen&#8217;s ever-evolving sound. How does he approach the delicate balance between maintaining a signature style while continuing to push forward? What influences &#8211; both musical and beyond &#8211; feed into his productions? And how he plans to push his signature sound forward. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>TFword:\u00a0Your new single &#8216;Massive Organ&#8217; is out now on Adesso Music and has received some really solid support. Can you tell us about the creative process behind this track and what inspired it?<br>AndThen:<\/strong> I\u2019m buzzing with the huge DJ and radio support it\u2019s had\u2014hearing it played by people like Arielle Free on Radio 1 has been a real moment. Once I landed on the core sounds\u2014especially that gospel-style organ\u2014the track came together in about half an hour. It just flowed. That seems to happen with some of my best ones\u2014the less time I spend overthinking, the better the result. I wanted something that stood out, and since organs are usually tucked into the bassline, I thought it\u2019d be interesting to flip that and bring it to the front. It gave the drop a different energy, and it worked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><strong>TFword:<\/strong>\u00a0The track is described as having your signature driving, percussive sound but with a tribal edge and lush jazz organs. How did you approach blending these specific elements together?<br>AndThen:<\/strong> It was about finding the right balance between rhythm and soul. The percussion gives it that drive and weight, and the organ brings in a deeper, more emotional texture. I like playing with contrast\u2014elements that feel a bit unexpected together but somehow lock in. Once I had those core pieces, the rest of the track built itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><strong><strong>TFword:<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong> <strong>What inspired this fusion of experimentation with dancefloor functionality on \u2018Massive Organ\u2019?<br>AndThen:<\/strong> I\u2019m always looking for that point where the track still does the job on a dancefloor, but gives people something a bit different. What&#8217;s your relationship like with the label, and what makes it a good home for your sound?<br>AndThen:<\/strong> Adesso has been amazing. They\u2019re not just serious about the music and promotion, but also really committed to artist development\u2014whether it\u2019s advice on publishing or just helping you navigate the industry. On top of that, they\u2019re just great people to be around. I\u2019ve become mates with a few other artists on the label too\u2014it\u2019s a really good mix of established names and emerging talent, and there\u2019s a proper sense of community there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><strong><strong>TFword:<\/strong><\/strong>\u00a0Let\u2019s go back to the start. How did you first get into music production and DJing? What was the initial spark?<br>AndThen:<\/strong> It started with playing around on production software in my teens, just seeing what I could come up with. I was into electronic music from early on, and once I realised I could actually make it, that was it. DJing came shortly after\u2014I wanted to hear how my tracks sounded loud, test them in real settings, and just be part of that environment. I\u2019ve been at it for a while, but it\u2019s only really in the last 5 or 6 years that I\u2019ve taken it more seriously. Back in the 2000s, I was releasing under a few different names but never really stuck with it consistently. This year actually marks 30 years of DJing for me. I started out MCing to happy hardcore and jungle in clubs, but knocked that on the head when I got deeper into DJing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><strong><strong>TFword:<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong> <strong>Were there any key turning points where you felt your sound matured or took a new direction?<br>AndThen:<\/strong> Definitely. Getting support and proper feedback from artists I respected gave me confidence to trust my own sound more. I stopped trying to chase trends and started focusing on what excited me. That shift made a big difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><strong><strong>TFword:<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong> <strong>Are there genres outside of house and tech-house that you\u2019d like to explore in future releases?<br>AndThen:<\/strong> Lately I\u2019ve been experimenting with more disco influences\u2014stuff that brings a bit more raw energy and funk. I\u2019ve been collaborating with mates like Deepfiktion and Huxley and every session brings something new. I\u2019m constantly learning, and it makes me want to explore even further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><strong><strong>TFword:<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong> <strong>2024 saw you collaborate with the house legend Flashmob and have your track &#8216;For The Crowd&#8217; remixed by Huxley. Can you share what those experiences were like? How did the Flashmob collaboration come about?<br>AndThen:<\/strong> I met Flashmob when we played together at Thirty3Hz in Guildford. I sent him a few tracks after the gig, and he got back saying he wanted to collab on a couple. I wasn\u2019t about to say no to that. Sandro (Flashmob) is a genuinely good guy and really uses his platform to lift others up. As for Huxley, we\u2019ve known each other through some production retreats, and I\u2019d been hassling him for a remix for a while\u2014he finally caved. We\u2019ve actually been in the studio together and worked on a couple of tracks. One\u2019s already been played out and featured on a Defected stream, so hopefully more of that sees the light of day soon. It\u2019s a chance to really let the groove breathe. Working with vocalists has also opened up new possibilities and made the process feel even more dynamic. I think stylistically, I\u2019ve been influenced by things like Floorplan\u2014raw energy, gospel elements, and that unmistakable groove.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><strong><strong>TFword:<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong> <strong>What are your main plans and goals for the rest of 2025 and beyond? Are there any exciting projects, collaborations, or gigs on the horizon you can tell us about?<br>AndThen:<\/strong> There\u2019s a solid release schedule ahead, including a couple of new EPs and collaborations that I\u2019m really excited about. I\u2019ve got music coming up on RTRYBE\u2014a label led by Huxley, Bakis and Ramin Rezai\u2014as well as a remix on the Elemental Music label, where I\u2019m also A&amp;R. Gig-wise, I\u2019m buzzing for the Elemental Summer Festival\u2014that one\u2019s going to be big\u2014and I\u2019ve been playing a lot with the artists involved at the moment. Also playing regularly with my mates at Sativa in West London, which has been properly kicking off. Looking forward to heading back to Cardiff in August, where I used to live and DJ, and up north to link up with my mate Matty Innocent in Middlesbrough.
