Guwahati-born singer-songwriter and producer Imon commences 2024 by crafting a striking maiden solo release, ‘Homage,’ a nearly four-minute composition underlined by hope.

Musician Prabahan Shakya, best known as Imon, serves up ‘Homage,’ a tune initially penned in 2021 and a regular feature during his live performances. Imon’s debut track delves into his passion for life and paying tribute to the folks he’s grown up idolizing, while inspired by artists such as Hozier, Bon Iver, and the late Jeff Buckley.

“Homage felt like a fitting place to start for the stories I wish to share. I know that my fascinations will evolve in the coming years, but for a while now I have enjoyed writing about time and change because it moves, and sometimes even scares me. I cannot think of a song that better introduces my fears and passions,” says Imon about the track.

‘Homage’ unwraps with a melancholic piano melody delicately graced by Imon’s buoyant-gloomy vocal arrangement. The composition ethereally sprouts heavenly vocal sirens, echoing harmonies laid over a canvas of pulsating key segments and rhythmic string sections.

The cover art is an old photograph of Imon’s maternal family photographed in 1997 in their hometown of Pathsala in Assam. “I have a very personal attachment to this picture, as each of these people have been nothing short of a moral compass to me,” says the songwriter. “This picture has always made me feel happy, inspired, and just the right amount of sad – all emotions I would like the listener to experience while listening to the song.”

Brooding on the decision to choose ‘Homage’ as his debut single, Imon expressed, “Homage felt like a fitting place to start for the stories I wish to share. I know that my fascinations will evolve in the coming years, but for a while now I have enjoyed writing about time and change because it moves me, and sometimes even scares me. I cannot think of a song that better introduces my fears and passions.”
