Sanjeeta Bhattacharya Finds Acceptance in New Single ‘Kaash’

Indian singer, songwriter, and actor Sanjeeta Bhattacharya releases her new single ‘Kaash’ via FFS, a sub-label of Times Music that focuses on independent music.
After a run of prominent music releases and on the back of her Bollywood debut in the action/thriller film ‘Jawan,’ Grammy-nominated vocalist Sanjeeta Bhattacharya marks the new year with ‘Kaash,’ a tune about the carefree acceptance of oneself. “We find ourselves feeling alone in a crowded room, chasing an escape from the pain you want to ignore, faking emotions to hide your real ones, chasing paper (money) instead of paper kites,” Sanjeeta said about the track.
The two-and-a-half-minute Hindi-lyrical song, produced by music producer, songwriter, and guitarist Vaibhav Pani, prompts the recollections of carefree youth, portraying a moment of existential dread and longing for uncontrolled energy. Arranged over a bobbling magnetic rhythm and flamboyant sonic tapestry, Sangeeta’s lush vocals seamlessly hover over the melody.
“Kaash was written while watching kites soar high above the clouds, against a beautiful warm sunset on a breezy autumn evening,” shared Sanjeeta. “There is a sense of freedom and careless abandon in these moments that we lose as we grow older and more occupied with the ways of the world.”
“She has always been one of my favorite singer-songwriters in the scene. The moment I heard ‘Kaash’, I fell in love with the melody and the concept,” says Vaibhav, who got acquainted with Sanjeeta via social media.
‘Kaash’ is a pointer to music to come from an all-star super-group, courtesy of an EP ‘Women of the Now’ (slated for March 8), featuring the vocal talents of ‘Picnic‘ fame Utsavi Jha, Sanjana Devarajan (‘Nee Venda‘), and Akanksha Sethi (‘Raaz Tera Mera‘), as well as Sanjeeta.
