Sonic Tigeress To Etch a Landmark Moment in the Indian Music Festival Scene

A single-day showcase curated for women by women, Sonic Tigeress will emphatically stamp its presence at Pheonix Market City in Bengaluru on March 29.
The multi-genre festival was conceived from discussions around the gender balance of music festival line-ups and the safety of women attendees. It is intended to be a place where women gather to support, encourage, and elevate one another in addition to the live music.
Fierce female artistry goes beyond live music at Sonic Tigress as the festival will be tagged by experiential experiences like interactive installations, immersive spaces where technology and art meet, and a showcase of handpicked homegrown boutique brands.
Revered multilingual playback singer Nikhita Gandhi was the first act to be announced for Sonic Tigeress. She will be accompanied by a diverse line-up of musicians from various genres. Blues royalty Tipriti Kharbhangar will perform with Japanese trumpeter Chie Nishikori, dynamic hip-hop collective Wild Wild Women, singer-songwriter sister duo Sukriti and Prakriti Kakkar aka SuPra, lethal guitarist Niveditha Ode Linda, and teenage sensation Megan Rakesh with her band Meg & The Miracles are some of the names plastered on the bill.
“It’s a tremendous opportunity for us to play a festival led by women, and only for women,” conveyed Sukriti and Prakriti in a press note. “Equality for women in music is a cause that is very close to our heart, and we have always sought to inspire women to embrace their individuality and to stand up for themselves.”
“We live in a world where acronyms like DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) are thrown around a lot, but in reality, nothing has changed at the ground level,” voiced Darshan M, the festival visionary and Bangalore-based entrepreneur via a press note. “Women are still fighting for opportunities. So the whole thought behind this festival is not to give women a seat at someone else’s table but to build a full table just for them. Sonic Tigress isn’t about inclusion; it’s about owning the stage.”
Darshan M and his team have also ramped up efforts to ensure the programming is 100 percent women, tasking the artists to shake up their onstage entourage and the arena’s backing team. In this regard, he communicated, “Artists have been very accommodating of our idea and intention. Additionally, we will make sure all the support staff, ushers, hosts, and even security guards are all women. We have also requested the police to provide women constables.”
“I have personally been to too many events where I witnessed drunk men harass women, and I hope Sonic Tigress would be the beginning of a new experience for women who just want to be able to enjoy themselves without unwanted attention.”
Sonic Tigress is open to only women attendees and is committed to being a 100 percent safe space for women. The production crew, sound and light engineers, volunteers, social media team, merchandising, the PRs and everyone involved have women-led teams.
