Toronto-based singer-songwriter CMAGIC5 drives forward her third single of 2025 titled ‘Monster,’ sketching images of a nightmarish scenario of an inescapable toxic relationship while exploring the tug-of-war of addiction.

“At its core, ‘Monster’ is about breaking free. It’s about finding the strength to cut ties with something (or someone) that’s been haunting you, even when it feels impossible. Writing it was cathartic, and I hope that when people hear it, they feel that same rush of energy, like they’re ready to finally let go,” said CMAGIC5.

Following on from January’s ‘Happy Never After,’ and multiple music collaborations since, CMAGIC5 slaps on yet another passionate punk-rock/pop-rock offering in ‘Monster.’

A fan favorite during her concerts, ‘Monster’ is written as a visceral cry of frustration, resilience, and eventual independence, while also examining different kinds of addiction – to a person, emotion, or habit you know is harmful yet still can’t break.

Opening with flickering guitar picks paired with dulcet vocal patterns, ‘Monster’ soon ensues with thumping drums and edgy electric guitar lines, crafting a raw and energetic pop-rock sound. Its hooky chorus and powerful bridge sequence make for a stellar composition that is easy to bounce about at a live performance.

‘”Monster” came from that feeling of being trapped in something you know is bad for you, but still struggling to let go. I wanted to capture the idea of toxic attachments—whether it’s a person, a habit, or even just a mindset—that creep back into your life like a nightmare you can’t escape. It’s that push and pull of knowing you should run but feeling like you can’t, like something has its claws in you,” shared the artist via press note.

“I was inspired by the way addiction—whether emotional or chemical—can feel like a monster in your head, something that follows you home and hides in the shadows, waiting to pull you back in.”
