Innellea Asks, “What Am I Allowed to Do as an Artist?”

German DJ/producer and live act Innellea shared on social media that he’s taking time off to reset, opening up about feeling burnt out from mounting expectations.

In a two-part statement captioned “I feel stuck,” which is currently the solitary post on his social media, Innellea has opened up about swerving trends in the scene and “comments” that made him uneasy, seemingly steering the techno ringleader to what “Innellea should sound like.”

He maintained that he experimented and released music he genuinely believed in, while also affirming that everyone is influenced by trends, friends, labels, and algorithms. To this, he remarked, “It’s strange to watch an entire scene shift along with them.”

Innellea also reflected on his early days, calling it a time “when art and music had no borders” and “where people who felt lost finally felt that they belonged.” This essence and feeling is exactly what the Munich-based Michael Miethig chased and envisioned for his Innellea project.

Since its launch, Michael has framed his electronic venture to not become limited to one sound, embracing ambient waves, melodic techno, tech house, breakbeats, and everything in between.

While the post makes it clear that the techno maverick is grateful and welcoming of feedback, which stems from love and memories created, he further conveyed, “Yet somehow, I feel stuck. Locked into expectations. Into boxes I never wanted to step into.”

Feeling caught between social media commentary and the pressure of algorithm-driven trends, Innellea questioned, “What am I actually allowed to do as an artist? Right now, I don’t have an answer. What I do know is that I need to step back from noise, from feeds, from opinions.”

Concluding his post, the electronic artist voiced that he was taking some time off to “reconnect with myself, with the music, and with the reason I started all this in the first place.” In the comments, fans and fellow artists have shared messages of support, encouragement, and empathy.

Innellea’s most recent drop arrived in the form of ‘Parte del Juego,’ a collaboration with Argentine EDM-rock duo Peces Raros via his Belonging label. In terms of live appearances, the German producer is listed to perform in Ecuador for Melodic Movement on March 27 and Ultra Miami (B2B with Colyn) on March 28 this year.
