Bengaluru-based music consultancy Neon Culture swirls in their newest undertaking – Deccan Alternative Music Conference, a music business forum spotlighting the diverse music industries in the Deccan region of India.

Rooted in evolving independent music and culture in India, Neon Culture is slated to host the inaugural edition of its annual boutique music business conference on February 9 and 10 at the Bangalore Creative Circus in Bengaluru, Karnataka. This multi-day event is co-presented by event whizzes Heartland Experiences, gig placard chroniclers Indian Gig Poster Archive, and music community OriginalDog.

The Deccan Alternative Music Conference (DAMC) is a traveling conference with a city in focus each year. DAMC brings grassroots-level initiatives and innovation in the independent music scene to the forefront. This boutique conference incorporates action-based and skills-oriented programming, skipping the mundane panels and instead conducting hands-on workshops, insightful presentations, and networking spaces developed to maximize value for delegates and attendees.

Neon Culture founders Prarthana Sen and Vishruti Bindal stated their purpose for DAMC with us, expressing, “The hope is to build an annual event where the music community including all its stakeholders can meet and navigate the industry challenges together. I hope DAMC can garner a sense of community and showcase the breadth and diversity of music in the Deccan.”

DAMC will also introduce DeccanAlt, a yearly spectacle showcasing live music from a handful of artists based in the Deccan region. This will be held in the evening, with the rest of the proceedings taking place during the day. At this event, attendees will be in the presence of staples of the music scene in India, with the likes of scientist, musician, and quizmaster Ashley Berty, director at OriginalDog Navin Dorai, event connoisseur Abdul Manaf, designer and illustrator Mohini Mukherjee, entertainment and intellectual property rights lawyer Manojna Yeluri, and more.

The duo also conveyed, “For Neon, the priority is to create intentional ways to fill knowledge gaps in the music business as well as learn as we go, and this conference is one of the ways we get to do both!”, expressing, “You will also see this reflected in our programming, for example, we decided to take panels out of our format and have masterclasses and workshops where attendees will walk away with tips and tools they can implement.”
