Kenn Colt and Mavhungu Drop Scintillating Afro-House Track, ‘Vuwa’

The newest single sees Belgian producer Kenn Colt’s impressive combination of dance music pulses embrace the melodious voice of South African singer-songwriter Mavhungu.

“‘Vuwa’ means prevail; it is about encouraging all the women and men out there going through challenges to stand strong,” conveyed Mavhungu via email. The vocalist hopes that listeners will be inspired and motivated by this single.

Released via the Mozambican label My Other Side of the Moon, Kenn Colt and Mavhungu forge a highly infectious Afro-house alloy, smelted with Colt’s feel-good rhythms and Mavhungu’s soothing vocals carried out in the Venda language. Kenn Colt spotlighted Mavhungu’s impressive vocal range on social media and declared that Mavhungu “truly brought this track to life!”

‘Vuwa’ opens with lively beats coated with booming vocals from Mavhungu. Playful synths, tapping percussions, and wavy bass patches latch onto the rhythm, molding a polished, dancefloor-ready Afro house track.

We had the pleasure of chatting with the talented Afro-pop singer Mavhungu, who talked about this vibrant new release, sharing the inspiration and the creative journey behind it.

Regarding ‘Vuwa’ and how this cross-country collaboration came to be, Mavhungu stated, “The song speaks about the courage of resilience, and what inspired me about the song was the struggle of women; hence, it encourages all the women out there who are going through challenges.”

“Kenn Colt contacted me and said he thinks my voice will be the best on his song, and we started sharing ideas, and Vuwa was created. Kenn is so talented; I love working with him.”

Mavhungu described the recording process and production as “one of the great moments” in her career thus far, as she clicked with the beat instantly, leading to a seamless workflow. She conveyed, “I connected with the melody right away. I started with the beat, then layered my vocals onto it.”

“Music is everything to me. I love to embrace my culture and be proud of where I am from. My language is very spiritual to me, and I love to connect with the world with my music,” the Afro-pop star further expressed.

Concluding our exchange, Mavhungu delightfully translated the lyrics of the track for us. It reads, “With every step, with every fall, Pride helps us rise, stand tall It’s the voice that says, ‘I’ll try again.’ A resilience that helps us to mend.”
