Darude to Mark 25 Years of ‘Sandstorm’ With Fun Run in Helsinki

Finnish trance DJ/producer Darude is set to commemorate 25 years of his career and the anniversary of his iconic dance anthem, ‘Sandstorm,’ with a six-kilometer Darude Sandstorm Run.
Darude’s ‘Sandstorm’ is easily one of the most recognizable tracks to come out of the noughties and continues to leave a lasting cultural impact even a quarter of a century later. Its memorable music video from director Juuso Syrja, which opens with the artist seated on the steps of the Helsinki Cathedral and bears a lasting chase sequence, is set to get a celebratory dash.
Open to all his fans and fitness enthusiasts, this upcoming six-kilometer ‘Sandstorm’ fun-run event will pass through identifiable sights and landmark locations in southern Helsinki, seen in the original ‘Sandstorm’ music video. This marquee event is locked in for August 31, 2025, starting and concluding at Kaivopuisto Park, Helsinki, and is cobbled together by the multi-faceted sports services company Vauhtisammakko.
Participants are encouraged to show up in attire true to the music video and will have a chance to win prizes in the individual, pair, and team categories. Up for grabs is a meet and greet with Darude, a group photograph, and tickets to the Finnish leg of Darude’s ongoing STORM 25 World Tour at Kattilahalli on September 6, 2025.
“It’s great to be able to celebrate my career where it all began. The Sandstorm video is still being watched around the world, and it’s amazing to see it come to life through runners. I hope as many people as possible will come along to have fun and get moving,” Darude voiced in a statement.
