Tech Panda x Kenzani Revive A Punjabi Classic With ‘Jija’

Electronica duo Tech Panda x Kenzani are back with their ninth single of the year, ‘Jija,’ giving a classic Punjabi folk song a modern makeover.

The Delhi-based pair, celebrated for their remarkable fusion of traditional Indian melodies with house and techno music, draw inspiration from the folk favorite gidda song, ‘Jeeja Kalrha Kyun Aaya.’

Just in time for India’s matrimonial festivities, Tech Panda x Kenzani stamp their signature folktronica and experimental textures into the mix to transform the familiar wedding season melody into a dancefloor essential for the big day.

The newly buffered ‘Jija’ kicks off with Punjabi vocals sitting atop a bouncy desi-flavored beat. The tune builds with a bass-heavy groove, tapping percussion, echoing electro synths, and a party-fueling momentum.

Via press note, Kenzani stated, “We have grown up listening to this song, and it evokes a certain emotional response that we wanted our production to incite as well. It’s nostalgic, but very fresh and uplifting at the same time.”

Seeded into their live sets while on recent tours in Australia, Spain, Germany, Dubai, and India, they hope the original folk songs’ widespread appeal will help ‘Jija’ reach more listeners.

Tech Panda further conveyed, “We had a certain level of expectation that the audience would vibe to the track, but the actual reactions were unbelievable. People started singing along as most of them knew the folk song.”
