k o k u m, alias Karishma D’Lima, is a dreamy pop, hip-hop/R&B musician from Mumbai, India. The artist adopted the moniker k o k u m for her creative ventures where she explores photography and journaling, but mainly centers on releasing original music and covers over on her website, dearkokum.live

The latest track is k o k u m’s original composition titled ‘Yellow Brick Roadreleased on August 9th. ‘Yellow Brick Road’ is a South Asian/Indian artists’ riveting take on the revolutionary Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement that set out a wave of protests in America denouncing the country’s entrenched racism against black people following the death of George Floyd.

Hailing from India, k o k u m penned Yellow Brick Road to also immerse the listeners about the atrocities endured by the marginalized community in her country from her privileged vantage point. In her own words, the song ‘is about the fight for justice and equality BLM inspires, and the ownership of one’s identity’.

k o k u m can be heard reciting the cleverly-written lyrics of Yellow Brick Road to rhythmic transcending beats, enhanced with nuances of keys and beautifully blending harmonies. Written and composed by k o k u m herself, the song is produced by Riddiman (Mat Mcguiree), mixed by singer Joshua Singh and mastered by Ayan De (Paralights). The lyrical video supporting the track features footage from BLM protests shot by Nick Friend from BLM protests held at Chattanooga, TN., and edited by Goa-based independent filmmaker Grant Alan Davis

In this past year, k o k u m has released another original track titled ‘Floating’, which took a spot on Apple’s New Music Daily Playlist. She was featured on Joshua Singh’s electro hip-hop song ‘Breakfast In Bed’ with Sahir, and on the track ‘Day 6’ from Singh’s EP ‘Understudy’. k o k u m also lent her voice in a collaboration with California-based artist Russel Jordan on a Dance/EDM track What If.

‘Yellow Brick Road’ will be available on all streaming platforms on November 27th, 2020.
