Titled ‘Show Me What’s Real,’ Michael Dias’ debut record is a solid pop-rock outing doused with sways of rock, jazz, blues, and funk. Featuring his previously released singles ‘Chai Song,’ ‘The Fruit,’ ‘I Will Let You Go,’ and ‘Time Machine,’ ‘Show Me What’s Real’ kicks off with the titular track – a four-minute hard-rock jam. It is followed by ‘Why Suzie Why,’ a bluesy-funk offering layered with powerful yet somber brass segments. The acoustic piece ‘Flicked A Switch’ boasts the guitarist’s vocal mastery in tandem with elegant choir-esque harmonies.
‘Once I Find You,’ a decisive rock composition, is tailored with sleek bass and percussive action, fixed with a tidy electric guitar riff. Next up is ‘I Can’t Go On,’ the record’s blues-rock offering, with the melodic track ‘Black Hole’ concluding the album. Exuding elegant key action and orchestral string arrangments, ‘Black Hole’ emphatically ascends to a powerful rock ballad.
During our most recent interview with Michael, the singer-songwriter discussed the album, noting that it has been in development for over fifteen years. He conveyed, “This is my best work yet and I’m proud to be finally putting it all out there.”
He dipped into the makings of the album, saying, “For over a decade, I was associated with Bangalore-based rock band Mad Orange Fireworks, and most of the songs I’ve written have come out under that name. Now these ten songs are the ones that never made it into the band material because they needed a different approach.”
