Koktun Takes You to Their Childhood on New Single ‘Muito Mano Ang’

Attracting listeners to the incredible music composed in the hilly state of Tripura, located in Northeast India, Koktun releases the delicious country/jazz ballad ‘Muito Mano Ang.’
Lyrically composed in Kokborok, a language spoken by the indigenous people of Tripura, ‘Muito Mano Ang’ is five minutes of pristine melodies layered with rich sonics. Enlivened by vocalists Amir Jamatia and Koshik Murasing, the joyous tune points to nostalgic times of growing up in a village in Tripura. Released in January 2024, the single is an enchanting mélange of soul, jazz country, pop, and folk, with winks of light country flares.
‘Muito Mano Ang’ delicately unwraps with brushed percussive patterns, gradually growing into soulful vocal melodies stacked atop strumming acoustic guitar and ukulele elements. The track is laced with airy bass plucks, dainty key, and a soothing hooky chorus, with a blissful multi-instrument segment forming the outro of ‘Muito Mano Ang.’
Koktun’s ‘Muito Mano Ang,’ was recorded at GIGS Music Café in Agartala, Tripura, and was released with a music video, filmed by Boyer Debbarma, that catches the band recalling fond childhood memories of days spent by the Gomati River, swimming, and playing games in the village fields.
Talking about the song, the band says, “‘Muito Mano Ang’ delicately weaves together the tapestry of our childhood memories, transporting viewers to a time filled with innocent joy and boundless imagination. The song affectionately recounts the nostalgic moments of playing traditional games like ‘Goolab,’ and the endearing routine of our mothers coaxing us to nap in the afternoon, even when sleep eluded us. Yet, as our mothers dozed off, we’d stealthily resume our play, only to be gently awakened later, perhaps with a playful swat from a lovingly wielded stick.”
