NoSpeak and Coco are also roped into the line-up for the showdown, which is scheduled to take place on June 8 in Auckland. A year on since Benn Rolls-Sheppard aka Chiccoreli delivered Tokyo Prose, Coco, Fox Glove, Skelta, and TakaRat as part of his Liquid Lowdown sessions, the promoter returns to The Mothership in Auckland with yet another invigorating roster.
Headlining this showcase is Berlin-based act GEST, comprising music producers Harry Hackett and David Stone. A staple of the drum & bass scene for nearly a decade, the pair have recently dropped a six-track EP ‘Superstructure‘ via Shogun Audio record label, which features a scintillating collaboration with Bristol-based musician Javeon (on ‘Loaded‘) and a techno-inspired tune in ‘Escalate.’
Speaking about the EP’s artwork with UKF, the duo shared, “Throughout the whole GEST project really there’s been an inspiration from brutalist architecture, these kinds of almost ugly, concrete structures that feel fairly threatening, but are actually maybe beautiful and interesting. Maybe it’s a natural link for a lot of producers, that sci-fi influence, when you see some of these structures and buildings it brings to mind dystopian vibes and the music has a link to that.”
GEST marks this release with a four-city tour of Australia and New Zealand, off which Chiccoreli’s Liquid Lowdown is the final stop, slotted for June 8. Joining GEST on this final leg and returning to The Mothership is Auckland-based drum & bass DJ Coco. Chiccoreli and DJ pair NoSpeak round out the artist card for the evening.
