Famed for his many evocative music releases and contributions to Bollywood and OTT platforms, Mumbai-based musician Nikhil D’souza has ushered in ‘Leher,’ a five-track record underlining old-school romance in a modern-day setting.

After delivering a sparking composition in ‘Muskaan,’ peppered with tranquil key segments courtesy of musician Brent Tauro, Nikhil D’souza continues to shell out soul-stirring melodies via his new EP. Widely known to concoct songs themed around love and romance, Nikhil’s latest offering sees his music on a journey, trying to clutch onto a bygone era of romance in the fast-paced and instantaneous world of today.

In the works for the last two years, Nikhil reels in the prowess of indie staples Nathan Thomas on bass, Mitchell Murray on drums, Brent Tauro on keyboards, Zohran Miranda on guitars, and Pinky Poonawala, who serves as the lyricist for all the tracks in this compilation. Released in mid-July amidst the heavy monsoon downpour in India, the weather perfectly compliments the EP, creating the ideal environment for a listen.

Hingeing on old-school love and nostalgia, ‘Dobara’ sits first on the EP, kicking off with shimmering electric guitars and percussive patterns. Nikhil croons over strumming guitars and shiny work on the keys, building toward a strong vocal crescendo. The aforementioned ‘Muskaan’ ensues next, followed by ‘Tu Keh De Haan,’ a spirited strummy rock ballad stitched with tantalizing guitar riffs.

‘Besabar’ gives us a poignant singer-songwriter composition, complete with whistles attuned to the wavy melody, while Nikhil’s 2023 single release ‘Socho’ gets a mellowed-down acoustic rendition to close the EP.

Remarking on this new release, Nikhil D’souza stated, “I believe today’s world has forgotten that love comes with a certain amount of cringe. We no longer make mixtapes, write cute letters, etc. that seemingly have become uncool. I think somewhere deep inside, everyone really yearns for that kind of cringe from their partners and friends. This EP might inspire you to relook at love in this way.”

Following the release, Nikhil has made an open invitation on social media to everyone who has streamed his music to share in the wackiest, cutest, most adorable, and outlandish activities they carried out for their crush; this will be featured in his upcoming music video.
