Forbidden Society Selects His Top VISION Recordings Tracks

The Czechia drum & bass legend has listed a bunch of tracks from VISION Recordings’ back catalog that have inspired his music.

The Czechia drum & bass legend has listed a bunch of tracks from VISION Recordings’ back catalog that have inspired his music.

Challenging the norm while carving out his unique space in the world of bass music has been Forbidden Society’s modus operandi for over two decades, and doesn’t seem to be intimated with the idea of consistently adapting to the contemporary sound. Having pushed the envelope through his bold, unapologetic approach to music has helped him create a platform for his alias and his label that extends far beyond his Czech Republic roots.

While rooted in drum & bass, these projects also explored electro, techno, and punk influences, as seen in his Subworld EP on Noisia’s VISION Recordings and his collaboration with Audio on Iris. Demonstrating his versatility and creativity, Forbidden Society has continued to set a high standard while exploring genres like garage, techno, and halftime.

His remix of Choosing For You on VISION Recordings’ The Resonance IV remix package and his track Replica on the ‘MISSION 02’ compilation further highlight his dynamic style. These accomplishments culminated in his most recent album, the ‘Lonely Road’ LP, released on VISION in June 2024.

The album marked the pinnacle of Forbidden Society’s deep and longstanding relationship with Noisia’s VISION Recordings, whether as an artist or simply as an avid fan of the legendary label. Given the influence VISION Recordings has had on the drum & bass scene, we were eager to discover if there were specific tracks from the label that played a significant role in shaping his musical journey. Forbidden Society didn’t hesitate to share a few of the standout tunes that had inspired him over the years, each one leaving a lasting imprint on his sound and artistic evolution.

NOISIA & MAYHEM – EXODUS (FT. KRS ONE) (2007)
“For me personally, this track is the Holy Grail of Drum & Bass. It has one of the most epic intros ever, leading to a massive drop. I remember hearing this tune for the first time and thinking, damn, this is a masterpiece. It still holds that status today.”

NOISIA – SPLIT THE ATOM (2010)
“This release by Noisia must be mentioned—it was a game-changer and truly showcased their talent at the time. Even after all these years, these tunes still sound incredible on a sound system, showing Noisia’s forward-thinking approach.”

SLEEPNET – FIRST LIGHT (2021)
“Nik Roos’ solo project is outstanding, and I could probably write a whole letter about how good this EP is. Nik is one of the biggest talents in electronic music production, and for me, the best in the world. Angel Blade is such a great track, bringing so many emotions.”

IMANU – MEMENTO (2020)
“This EP was, for me, the perfect showcase of Jon’s talent at the time. I always say Nik is the Einstein of DNB, and Imanu is the Amadeus of DNB. I remember Come Forward resonating strongly with the scene, and Imanu was one of the first to bring back that 4/4 techno DNB vibe.”

FORBIDDEN SOCIETY – LONELY ROAD (2024)
“I know it might seem a bit egotistic to post my own release on VISION, but I’m so happy and proud of it that I have to mention it here. I don’t think I could have done this release with any other label. It’s a one-in-a-lifetime release that holds many memories and helped shape my personality and music skills.”
